Positive Review
I'm going on my third month with the HRV and I have to say I love this car. I was researching SUV's for almost a year preparing for my end of lease with my Chevy Malibu. I wanted a smaller SUV but wanted AWD for the harsh winters in NY. I noticed that all of the competition does not offer the standard features that the HRV EX come with including; rear view camera, Bluetooth, lane watch (a great feature), brake hold (great in traffic or drive thru windows), moon roof, AWD, and heated cloth seats. All of this for 24K. That and the cargo space is what sold the car for me. For a small SUV it has a pretty big trunk and the magic seats add to the cargo capacity. Plenty of room for a family of 3 like mine or maybe even 4. I'm 5'11" and there's plenty of space behind the driver's seat for an adult as well. Now with everything there are some negatives to point out. You will not be winning any races with this car. This wasn't that important to me. Although I was disappointed coming from a car with 190+ HP. I knew what I was getting into and have gotten used to having less power but much better fuel economy! 27 MPG I'm averaging on mostly city driving. If you're looking for a lot of power you won’t find it here so look elsewhere. Though I don’t agree with the expert reviews on other websites that say the car is slow. It moves but you have to push it for power and when pushed the engine is loud. Here are some more things that I wish were better with the vehicle; interior storage space is lacking, the radio on the EX and EX-L doesn’t have knobs nor does the heat/ac. I have gotten used to this but it can be annoying to some. There is no temperature gauge in the car. I’ve never had a car without this and was quite surprised. Basically, you will not know how hot the engine is running until it’s about the over heat. The car also does not handle bumps all that well. It’s generally quiet on smooth roads but driving on NY roads with many potholes is not fun if you like a smooth ride. Also, the car doesn’t come with an owner’s manual. However, you can go to Honda’s website and request one to be mailed. Another thing I noticed is the doors seem heavy and I have to reopen and close them a lot because I generally don’t slam the door hard enough. These negatives are pretty minor to me but noteworthy. Overall, this is one of my favorite cars and I’ve owned 8 so far. I highly recommend checking out the HRV if you’re looking for a small sporty looking SUV that gets great MPG. None of the competition can beat the price/value, cargo space and features.
Critical Review
When I first purchased this car I was in love. Love the way that the backseat folds up. Also, love the moon roof and and most everything else about the car except the fact that the air conditioner compressor is badly exposed apparently because i had a rock go threw mine and oddly it is not covered by the warranty. Mine is not the only one that this has happened to. I feel that this should be addressed by Honda in the near future, This is a 500 issue per event. So to just fix it will not fix the problem there needs to be an improvement made in the placement of the compressor or some type of guard put on this.

I am so sick that my Honda HRV has a failed transmission at 107k miles. Saying it will cost 7 k to fix and only giving me 2500 for a car that was 15 k to buy 1.5 years ago. Warranty ran out 8 months ago. I won't be buying a Honda again! I am looking for a Toyota that will last
Drives great, Reliable, Good size for new drivers.
Extremely uncomfortable, Apple car play doesn’t work well
The seats in this car have basically reverse lumbar support it is so uncomfortable. And the apple car play does not work reliably on a brand new vehicle. The rims will hit the curb before the tires do so forget parking close to the curb you will destroy your rims. however the car drives very nicely and has no mechanical issues, easy to change oil and do basic maintenance on.
Only lasted 100,000 before the transmission fail
My car is not even 8 years old with 100,000 miles. Out of nowhere, with no warning sign, the transmission died on me. Now they want $8,000 to repair it (on a car that is now worth not even $9,000). My car is barely outside of the warranty zone to get the new transmission for free. It’s like the moment I went over the warranty in mileage it broke. Honda would not help me or show any sympathy. I thought Hondas were supposed to drive a lot longer than 8 years. This was extremely disappointing and now I have to purchase a new car. I will not be purchasing from Honda again.
Stylish, High quality, reliable, Excellent gas mil
Sluggish acceleration, Engine noise
My HRV Has a lot of things I really like. I get on average 36 miles per gallon combination city and highway driving. It is very stylish and has Honda quality. Up until I bought this vehicle, I had only owned Toyotas. Overall I am pleased with the vehicle but I must have confess that I drive like a grandma So fast acceleration is not a high priority. That's a good thing because the vehicle is quite sluggish and the engine noise is louder than other vehicles I owned. Also, It does not absorb bumps as well as I think it should. It's definitely not as smooth as my Camry. But in general I don't regret buying the vehicle and may consider buying 1 for my wife when she gets a new car in the next year or so.
Most uncomfortable drivers seat I have ever owned...and the headlights are turned in and are useless when turning at night.
Bought my 2016 HR-V EX-L in December 2018 with just under 18k miles. It is super fun to drive and you can park it anywhere. It has light gray leather (heated) seats and moonroof. Rear seats fold down or up, your choice. :-) Excellent gas mileage. Love the interior color schematic, so nice. Absolutely fun to drive. If you want an SUV that sucks the gas, this is not for you. Otherwise, this one leaves more money in your pocket for fun!
I've had this car now for almost 2 years and I really have very few issues with it. The biggest issue I have with it is really just the driving performance can lack at times. Occasionally coming up hills, the car will struggle with it's tiny little horsepower and the handling can feel a little off at times but other than that I love my baby blue. It rides smooth most of the time, the rear and side cameras are great, the infotainment center is great though I wish I went with the nav trim. It has decent storage and space though a space to put my sunglasses would be nice. The trunk is nice and spacious and with the drop down rear seats I was able to put a whole dresser in there! Overall a fantastic car, just wished it was a little bit of a better driver as well as some minor things here and there.
Love this vehicle, great on gas , space is great if you are under 5’8”, easy to maneuver on the highway if you are a cautious driver, love the right side camera, accurate view of your he right lane or changing into the right lane especially if you are exiting, love mostly the brake hold, if you travel long distances often and stuck in a bumper to bumper traffic the brake hold put a ease in your leg while in any traffic jam or at a stop light.Lots of trunk space. A great vehicle to invest in.
