Positive Review

"Can't beat the '05-'06 CR-V"

With the added safety equipment on the '05-'06 CR-V, you just can't beat the combination of Honda reliability; value retention; versatility; comfort; gas economy; styling; load capability; etc. I'd stay away from the vehilces produced in England (VIN statrs with "S") and zero in on those produced in Japan (VIN starts with "J"). The brit vehicles had problems straight out of the factory with airbags, etc.

VS

Critical Review

"A/C is a big problem"

The CR-V looks like a good car but in the years 02 and 03 there is a really big and expensive design flaw: The A/C compressor. I have 106,000 miles on my car and it is on its 3rd compressor. The unit costs well over $1,000.00 installed and if other A/C parts are bad (they usually are) the A/C repair could cost you about $1,600.00 everytime it goes out. When the A/C is down, the pressure flutter from dirving with the windows open is so intense that your ears can't take it and you need to drive with the windows up. You can't drive this car without A/C so don't think you'll just go without. This is an exceptional failure for Honda and by 04 they had it solved. But if you buy an 02 CR-V, plan to spend at least $1,250.00 every 35,000 miles to repair the A/C. You'll hate the cost of repairing the 02 CR-V.

Reliable car.

Just wanted to share my experience with the 2006 crv. It's been a good car. No major repairs. The starter needed replaced and dash lights stopped working acouple years ago at about 152,000 miles. Fixed. Some recalls were done and basic maintenance like oil changed, new tires. Also, AC compressor was changed at about 150,000 miles. Basically everything has been solid. I think keeping it maintained. I advice against transmission flush, car is not as smooth anymore, the engine sounds "wobbly". I would recommend this vehicle compared to other SUVs. No transmission issues. Timing belt never needs to be changed. Very good in snow. Has automatic 4 wheel drive in snow car automatically gears up.

Excellent buy
Pros

Reliable, comfortable,

Cons

Nothing of note for real

This car has been extremely reliable and never broken down in 313k miles with normal maintenance. It's held up extremely well considering that it's been around 2 decades. That value has held steady even though I added 125k to the car. Rides great, drives great, is comfortable and couldn't be happier with my purchase I never write reviews but this product was worth sharing about.

To the grave!!
Pros

Economy,Durability,Utility.

Cons

Road noise

If you take care of basic maintenance you can be buried in it. I own several cars and use this as my work vehicle and prefer it as my daily driver. It has performed above and beyond even pulling trailers and hauling ladders. Recently hit 253k miles so i thought i might want to look into upgrading and looked at what was available at a reasonable price point. My CRV still drove better with more pep and stability than what local dealers had to offer. As that is the mileage to the moon i am going to try to drive it back to Earth. Seriously a well built vehicle.

Still going strong at 305,000 miles! Love this car

I have owned this 2002 Honda CR-V for 18 years, "Little Bit" has 305,000 miles on her and she runs GREAT. Hardly cost me anything in repairs, just scheduled maintenance and maybe $500 in odd repairs to keep her perfect. Some 6 years ago I had to have the hood repainted (peeling). Absolutely reliable - never once broke down. Totally trustworthy in all weather conditions both on and off road (good clearance), even with just my front wheel drive, and I often don't chain up when I should, I trust it that much. It's the perfect height, tows my 12' utility trailer nicely, perfectly comfortable, low tech, and fits an amazing amount and sizes of cargo. Superior mileage because it's flyweight compared to most SUVs. May she live forever! 11-28-2022 Carson City, Nevada
