"Superb Vehicle - Best car I ever owned!"

The 2018 Clarity PHEV is a gem, and an outstanding vehicle from every perspective. So, its not surprising to see other owners posting the same 10/10 rating. Here are short highlights: I drive less than 50 miles/day, hardly use any gas, & went over 900 miles before refueling the 7-gallon tank. Charge the car overnight on standard outlet - no need to purchase Level 2 charger unless you need a 2 1/2 hour quick re-charge. Most comfortable car Ive owned and incredibly quiet! Handles beautifully! Informative, easy-to-use touchscreen. Excellent audio system. Lots of trunk space, roomy in the back. Great value, has the feel of a more expensive sedan. The Touring upgrade is well worth the additional cost.

Critical Review

"Frequently loses power"

Frequently loses power. At low speeds, upon acceleration, a hesitation occurs that is extremely annoying and can be dangerous. This intermittent problem is difficult to reproduce and therefore the dealer will not acknowledge. Turning off the vsa (Vehicle stability) seems to help but this should not be necessary just to make the car perform as it should. I suspect there is a flaw in the engineering that confuses the switch between gas and electric power that leads to this hesitation to accelerate. This can be dangerous when attempting a left turn from a stop or slow speed. My Chevy volt was always dependable upon acceleration and I would not purchase this car had I known of the serious flaw. I am surprised that I do not see evidence of this problem in other reviews.

I love this car!

This is my first hybrid so I was Leary. I generally don't like advanced features due to the possibility of expensive failures but decided to take a chance on Honda. I LOVE THIS CAR! I rarely by gas because, like most people, my normal trip is less than 50 miles. When I do travel I typically get 50 MPG with a car that is the same size as my wife's Accord that gets maybe 35 MPG. It is 6 years old and the only problem was a bad A/C condenser that Honda repaired at no cost and is guaranteed for another few years. The smooth EV torque and many simply mastered features (for someone who loves simplicity) make this my favorite of many cars I have ever owned, Things I don't like: the wipers tend to chatter and the center console is too big.

Great PHEV!
Pros

Comfort, performance, good for the environment!

I bought one of the first Claritys in the Denver market in 2018. It was shipped directly from Japan. The car is comfortable, roomy and has all the updated tech (audio, visual and safety). I get compliments from passengers all the time. The gas mileage is superior and the electric battery capacity is enough to get you around town a few days a week!

Best Car
Pros

Fuel economy, tax credit, price

Cons

Discontinued by Honda

I am very pleased with this car. In the summer here in Wisconsin I am getting @60 miles per charge. In the winter, over 40 miles per charge. With gas, @43 mpg. I seldom buy gas and have no range anxiety. The sport mode has plenty of power but usually use eco mode. The trunk has lots of space, and a roomy interior for a smaller car. I use CarPlay almost all the time for music and navigation. Rather sporty looking too. With the $7500 tax credit it was a great purchase.

An Incredable car for the price
Pros

longest electric range of any plug-in hybrid

Cons

Passenger's seat doesn't raise and lower

A Clarity Plug-in Hybrid is unlike most other cars. It is really an all electric car that carries along a gasoline engine and generator to keep the battery charged. It's transmission has only one gear besides neutral and park. It gives you the best of both worlds, the all electric car world and the plane old gasoline car. It has the longest electric range of any plug-in hybrid. You can drive around town, do your shopping and errands, go to the theater and to dinner and never use even a teaspoon of gasoline. This is just like an all electric car. Yet you can also drive cross country on gasoline getting 40 to 45 miles per gallon and never have to even think about finding a charging station, just like any gasoline car. Besides all this it has many advanced systems like adaptive cruise control, lane keeping and a built in Garmin GPS.

Very comfortable and reliable
Pros

Comfortable, reliable and powerful

Cons

Engine a bit loud

Great EV powerful car! I regularly get 45-47 miles per charge. Additional gas tank is small so not much $ to fill up during this gas price hike. Very comfortable, safe, good navigation system and alter system.

Best Honda I’ve ever owned.
Pros

Quality with superior mileage.

Cons

None

As a car, it’s perfect. I’ve owned Hondas since 1974, over 20 different ones. My current garage has the Clarity, a 2003 S2000, and a 2007 Accord, EX-L with 270,000 miles! ALL are great cars.

This is the best car i've ever owned, by far!
Pros

Fun to drive, looks great, best hybrid range.

Cons

Not enough trunk space.

The exterior looks sleek, and the interior is gorgeous. i have the Touring model, and the beautiful leather interior is smooth, warm, and surprisingly spacious. i've never had a car that felt so roomie. The center console is a joy to use, and the integrated CarPlay screen is awesome. It's great that the back seats fold down to make more room to store stuff, though i wish the hole to the trunk was larger, but i only needed that once when trying to move a larger furniture item. The acceleration is very good, and you can clearly tell when you're on electric vs gas, and unless you're putting the pedal to the metal, you'll be on electric the whole time. i saw some other electric hybrids that turned on the gas motor to run the AC and heating system. i'm happy to say that this doesn't, it's all electric until you've run out of battery, then seamlessly switches to gas. My normal commute of 15 miles or so means i'm always on battery, and haven't had to use gas at all in my normal day. Honestly, i've had a lot of cars in my life, but this is the first car i've ever had that i actually look forward to driving every single day.
