Positive Review
This car has lived up to Honda's reputation for reliability. Snappy, 27 mpg, no major mechanical issues since we have owned it. I have replaced the timing belt per maintenance schedule of every 90K. Also replaced A/C around 200K and a radiator. Bought new Michelin tires at 220K because I plan to keep driving it for another 100K. I get offers to buy it all the time, but I could not find a reliable replacement for the KBB value.
Critical Review
We inherited this car from the in-laws when it was 8 years old with about 95,000 miles on it...but it has not been without trouble (despite what people told us about Hondas). The in-laws were meticulous about following the factory recommended maintenance. The car has destroyed two timing belts (despite the fact we followed the manufacturer's recommendations on replacement), and has rusted out its exhaust system (expensive to fix). We have been to several mechanics to try and repair a persistent oil leak, without success. The weather seals in the doors are going now (car is now 18 years old), and one of the ball joint that holds the wagon hatch onto the lift strut self-destructed, and to repair it would be very expensive. CV joints had to be replaced at 160,000 miles. I have a GM FWD car with 185,000 miles with its factory CV joints (and no problems there). We live in a damp climate (Western Oregon), and I have never seen a car that is worse than this one about fogging up the windows from the inside. On the plus side, the transmission and air conditioning systems have been trouble free.

Bought my 1992 Accord LX Station Wagon almost 21 years ago. It was 10 years old and had 140,000 mi. Today, with 220,000+ mi. It's still as dependable as ever! At 76 years old, I can still fix anything I don't have to get under the car to work on. Have done the alternator, O rings in the spark plug wells, changed out belts. Cleaned the power steering resevoir filter, add freon to the A/C system, and always do my own tune-ups. Considering I'm 4'8" tall, and a woman, I'd say it was well would the $1,400.00 I paid for it 20 years ago. Actually, the last time I checked,it's worth more now than what I bought it for!
User friendly
Captive front rotors. (Use torch on ball joints)
This car was well ahead of it's time. I get anywhere from 25 to 32 miles per gallon. They have plenty of power for traveling through mountains. They are fairly simple to work on for do-it-yourselfers. I have seen them with over 400,000 miles running strong. The suspension system is a piece of art. Until recently it was one of the best cornering front wheel drive cars ever produced. A truly timeless machine, the body style still looks great now over 30 years later.
Great car
Automatic seatbelt is fraying
I bought it 3 years ago for $250, I did some maintenance like the timing belt, tires, cv axels and muffler. I've driven this car everywhere and put 40k miles on it. I trust it to go on long trips. 1991 honda accord. Roughly 243k miles
FUN ,never any major problems,353,000k when sold
NONE, LOVED THE CAR
In 1993 when I was starting my senior year of high school my parents bought me a new black 1993 Honda accord SE automatic sedan. That car was and is a great looking car with that spoiler/brake light on the trunk. I drove the wheels off that car all through college and it never left me stranded.I hear complaints about Honda autos being harsh and jerky but that was always just a quirk of Honda. I like the mechanical whine and jerk it the transmission was bullet proof. I kept that car 11 years and put 353K on it and I never had a major issue. I replaced the struts and alternator, water pump,Timing belt and that is all but, that is to be expected. In grad school I would get in these pack of drivers coming back from Alaska in Montana driving at 110 for hours and it was solid as a rock listening to techno. The seats everything about that car was perfect . Maybe its because cars are so much more complicated now. My 2017 Honda Crv has not been as reliable of course it is turbocharged and that does some drawbacks.I will always be a Honda/Toyota only guy but that old accord of mine makes me wistful every time I think about it .I drove that car through Alaska blizzards every kind of weather never a problem.
Very very fun and loud
none
I absolutely love this car! This is the car that got me into JDM and all things Honda.
Maintained, two owners
Fun to drive, reliable, clean design
Saggy seats, road noise on highway
My car was actually a 1991, but Kelly Blue Book doesn't do cars that old, and 1991 is the same generation as 1992. The Honda was a great first car, being reliable and cheap to run, as one might expect. The 4 speed auto I had was not the greatest at shifting, but at $1800 I couldn't be too picky. Despite being on the slow side (0-60 in about 10 seconds), the steering feel was very good, and the engine note was entertaining, making the car feel much faster than it was, and fun to drive. The seats were not the best, and the road noise at higher speeds could be annoying on long highway trips, but usually was fine.
Surprising mileage at 21+ years old! Everything!
Rubber trunk seals cracked, minor conveniences
When I finally had to part with my 1990 Accord, it had seen 205,000 miles: and I would've driven it till it died but it got in an accident (no injuries!) which sidelined it. Sad that Honda supposedly doesn't make Accords as long-lasting anymore...'cause the '90 to '93 generation was pretty remarkable. They're just like rock-solid Energizer Bunnies. By the end of my time with the car, it had been basically restored to like-new condition. It had begun to show its age finally, in mid 2017 after 27 years on the road. Amazing! Bottom line: I'm currently a Ford driver (a perfectly fine car I also like a lot), but I think my loyalties will always lie with Honda. If you've got a destination in mind...your Honda will get you there.
