The 2024 GMC Terrain is at its most compelling in AT4 or Denali form, but it’s grown increasingly uncompetitive against the compact SUV segment’s many newer and more refined entries. Pricing starts at $30,095.
The 2024 GMC Terrain has all of the perks of a mainstream compact SUV, like a spacious interior and modern technology, and is at its best when outfitted as the off-road-ready AT4 or luxurious Denali variants. This generation is now in its seventh and final model year; consequently, it is somewhat dated, and has become a tough sell against newer and more refined models like the Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-50, and several others. However, help is on the way in the form of a totally redesigned Terrain for 2025.
The GMC Terrain gets a couple of modest updates for 2024, which is the final model year for this generation. It adds a little extra aesthetic variety with two new paint options (Riptide Metallic and Downpour Metallic).
For 2024, the Terrain adds blind-spot monitoring, lane-change alert, and rear cross-traffic alert to the GMC Pro Safety Plus package. This package also now comes standard on the AT4 trim.
The 2024 GMC Terrain has a starting sticker price of $30,095, with the range-topping Terrain Denali kicking off at $39,995. But Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Pricing currently suggests paying $2,414 to $2,878 less than MSRP, depending on trim and equipment. These prices are updated weekly.

A small but sufficient turbocharged 4-cylinder engine powers every 2024 GMC Terrain. Although the acceleration is modest, we enjoyed our time driving the Terrain because of its comfortable ride and quiet cabin. A unique, comfort-tuned suspension system makes the Denali model our preference for long-distance cruising.
The AT4 trim puts the Terrain on par with the more rugged variety of compact SUVs, including the Subaru Forester and Mazda CX-50. It’s suitable for mild off-roading on muddy trails or traversing deep snow.
The interior space of the GMC Terrain is more than enough for most drivers in the market for a compact SUV. The front seats are roomy and comfortable, and we had no trouble comfortably fitting in the back seats. We were also impressed with the spacious cargo hold. This roomy cabin in a compact package makes the Terrain a practical SUV for singles and small families alike.
A user-friendly infotainment system is a strong suit of this interior. We appreciate the simplicity of the controls and menus, and we recommend the 8-inch screen (which adds SiriusXM) that’s standard in all but the base SLE trim, which has a 7-inch screen.
As for material quality, the Terrain’s cabin is a bit of a mixed bag. There’s nothing wrong with the inside of the Terrain, but compared to some similarly priced rivals, we were a little disappointed by the relative abundance of hard plastics. For a nicer interior, upgrade to the Denali trim.
We also struggled with a learning curve in the transmission buttons. Some push-button transmission controls are more intuitive than others, and the Terrain’s horizontal layout is a bit frustrating, especially while trying to perform a three-point turn.
A bold and rugged exterior design makes the GMC Terrain stand out in a crowded field of compact SUVs. The C-shaped light signature gives it an upscale look, and the AT4 and Denali trims have their own distinct appearance packages.
GMC Infotainment System
