Positive Review
This truck comes stocked with everything you need for your basic SUV. It includes a USB connect in the console for you IPOD lovers and an internal AUX port good for plugging up your Kindle to read to you through your speakers while you drive. Its really roomy in both the front and back cabins and seats tall people especially comfortably both length and height. There is a lot of head room left even with a 6'plus person in the backseat. Going from a full size truck to an SUV I was used to having a truck bed to haul stuff, but the seats in this SUV fold down and slide back and forth to accommodate just as much as your truck bed would and without the interference of the wheel wells. Its great on gas mileage as long as you leave the ECO mode on, but the ECO mode makes it hard to shift up to fast speeds while trying to merge into oncoming traffic. If you turn it off though, the truck picks up speed with no problem but you also burn a lot of gas in the process. I easily get 25 MPG in the city and about 29 on the highway which is awesome for an SUV. The physical appearance is beautiful - not too flashy but still sleek and elegant. The stitching in the seats use red thread so you feel like you've gotten an upgrade as soon as you sit in it. Overall the GMC Terrain is a great buy and its worth every penny of the price!
Critical Review
Bought in Dec '11. We used this vehicle to travel back and forth to NY many times. For 4 years it was good (minor usage/maintenance items). At 100K miles it began consuming oil at about a quart per 1000 miles. My dealer told me this was normal for any car. In talking with other mechanics, I was told that without leaks (which my engine did not leak at all) a quart per 1000 miles was excessive and endangered the engine. GMC basically told me that they would not do anything for me. The service manager performed a consumption test which recorded 3.25 quarts consumed over ~4000 miles (I actually had to add 1/2 a quart on top of that) and told me that was normal. He then told me I should have been having oil changes every 3000 miles (at $79 each) even though the oil life is recorded as 7-8000 miles, basically telling me it was my fault. Also as far I can tell he never did submit the results of the oil consumption test to GMC. Nice customer service.

looks and handling
not comfortable for long distance
the seats are not comfortable unless you are very small but the handling of the terrain is terrific
I have had more expensive repairs on this car than any other I have owned. I had to replace my who muffler system. Some belt had to be changed that was in the middle of the engine and it cost of $2,000. Among other things. Now it needs a head gasket! Not a good model. I have also had a least three recall letters from GMC for repairs. NO MORE FOR ME!
If your looking for a dependable car the GMC ALL TERRAIN SLT. I’ve had mine for 11 years now and the only thing that has gone wrong is my motor to my windshield wipers and that was fixed and paid for by the warranty company. It rides like it’s new and I can’t say enough good things about my car except that it’s one of the best cars I’ve ever had aside for my Acura Vigar.
Stylish
Bad motor and oil issues
I bought my terrain 5 years ago and 2 years into buying it I had to replace the engine due to a faulty factory PVC seal, don’t bother calling the GMC manufacturer because all they will say is they have no record of them being bad and the cost is on the buyer!!! Fast forward to 3 years after new motor and now the timing chain slipped and my motor is locked up!!! I have done tons of repairs to this horribly made model and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone!! Steer clear of this!!
NONE
EVERYTHING.
If your out tax balling trying to find a good car DO NOT GET A GMC TERRAIN. I spent 20k on this car when it was 5 years old and only had 50k miles on it. The PISTONS had to be replaced it eats oil like no other and now that it’s 10yrs old with only 114k miles it leaks oil faster than you can put it in there. It chugs, the starter is going out it always needs a tune up. I’m so tired of this car. Regular oil changes and maintenance and it’s STILL by far the WORST car and financial decision I ever made. Not to mention all the recalls they had. Just horrible. GMC has gone down hill bad. I’ve sank thousands into this car. Don’t get stuck in a loan like I did. Don’t even buy one if you can find it for cheap. Just a horrible experience.
