If you’re looking for a simple truck without more option checkboxes than seats in Yankee Stadium, the 2019 GMC Sierra Limited will come as a relief. With a 355-horsepower V8, a 9,400-pound tow rating and a 2,137-pound max payload rating on the 2-wheel-drive (2WD) model, the Sierra Limited is the real deal.
If you’re looking for the latest design, technology and safety equipment, not to mention a choice of gasoline or diesel engines, the all-new Sierra makes a better choice, as does a Ford F-150 or Ram 1500. Looking for a lower price? Check out the smaller but still capable GMC Canyon.
Basically a carryover of last year’s truck, the 2019 GMC Sierra Limited offers buyers everything they loved about the old truck, but with a lower price than the all-new 2019 Sierra, especially after factoring in generous cash-back allowances.
Now that the all-new Sierra pickup is here, you may think you missed out getting a good deal on the remaining 2018 trucks. But fear not, for the old body style carries on as the 2019 GMC Sierra Limited. The “Limited” name doesn’t so much refer to a special edition but rather your choices. Whereas the all-new Sierra can be had in multiple trims and configurations, the Sierra Limited comes only in Double Cab form and with just two trims: Sierra and SLE. Four-wheel drive (4WD) is optional, but the sole powerplant remains the 5.3-liter V8. With a strong reputation for reliability, safety and strong resale, the Sierra Limited offers buyers on a budget a path to full-size pickup-truck ownership without settling for a bare-bones outfit.
2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited Double Cab pricing starts at $23,403 for the Sierra 1500 Limited Double Cab Pickup 4D 6 1/2 ft, which had a starting MSRP of $41,165 when new. The range-topping 2019 Sierra 1500 Limited Double Cab SLE Pickup 4D 6 1/2 ft starts at $24,051 today, originally priced from $45,395.

GMC’s Sierra Limited pickup for 2019 is really two trucks in one. At first glance, the Sierra is a tough, hard-working full-size pickup posting all the right numbers in the areas of payload, towing and horsepower. But, dig deeper and you’ll find a rather passenger-car-like interior with the SLE trim boasting numerous amenities to make life on the road a little bit easier. The Sierra’s standard 5.3-liter V8 fits this truck like a glove, offering excellent power and decent fuel economy. With a 9,400-pound tow rating, the Sierra Limited will have no problem towing a boat, small horse trailer or that classic 1967 Camaro you’ve always wanted to restore. On the open road the Sierra Limited’s cabin filters out most noise and vibration, and the ride is more SUV-like than rugged work truck. Advantage, GMC.
With big buttons and knobs coated in rubber for easy grip even when wearing gloves, GMC’s 2019 Sierra Limited’s roomy interior is built with work in mind. Yet it also can be luxurious, with features such as heated front seats, dual-zone climate controls and remote start. Cab configurations are limited to the double cab with the standard bed, but there’s enough room in the rear seat for grown adults or a couple of big dogs. A wide center console separates the Sierra Limited’s even wider front seats, with three cup holders and a massive storage area perfect for concealing all your work tools. In back, a bench seat offers decent comfort and flips up to reveal more storage space.
We dub GMC’s latest styling experiment "contemporary macho." Like previous GMC trucks, this full-size pickup features blocky styling highlighted by swollen fender flares and a grille that would do a semi-truck proud. With the bold styling come practical innovations like corner steps built into the rear bumper. These provide a foothold for bed access, and by design are covered to mitigate slipping in wet environments. Handgrips and available bed-mounted LED lights are other features we like. The Double Cab features standard front-hinged rear doors with roll-down windows for easier access, while the bed measures 6.5 feet.
CONNECTED INFOTAINMENT
The 2018 GMC Sierra Limited’s standard-entertainment setup consists of a 7-inch touch screen equipped with GM’s IntelliLink telematics service. The system includes voice control for most operations, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility plus a USB port. The SLE gets an 8-inch screen, SiriusXM and a single-slot CD player.
EZ-LIFT TAILGATE
With the dampened EZ-Lift tailgate, there’s no more worry about waking up the neighbors when the tailgate slips from your grip and slams down. EZ-Lift allows the gate to lower slowly, and assists on the journey back up, making it easier to close the gate when your arms are full.
The entry-level 2019 GMC Sierra Limited includes air conditioning, cruise control, cloth seats and a 6-speaker, 7-inch touch screen with AM/FM radio with USB/SD inputs, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, HID headlights and a rearview camera but no CD player. Step up to an SLE trim and you’ll get an 8-inch touch screen, 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, a CD player, LED cargo bed lighting, remote-locking tailgate, color driver-information screen, floor carpeting, 60/40-split-folding rear seat, remote keyless entry, color-keyed power and heated outside mirrors and deep tinted rear glass.
The Sierra Limited can be ordered with 2WD or 4WD. Base models offer options standard on the SLE, such as tinted glass, remote locking and bigger wheels and tires. Optional packages include the SLE Value Package that adds a 10-way-power driver’s seat with power lumbar, remote start, rear-window defogger, dual-zone automatic climate control, tilt/telescopic steering column, fog lights, 110-volt outlet, trailer-brake control and a trailer package with a hitch, 7- and 4-pin connectors and a locking rear differential on 2WD trucks. An Off-Road Suspension Package adds firmer shocks, a larger front stabilizer bar, transfer-case skidplate protection and hill-descent control.
The 2019 GMC Sierra Limited offers a single powertrain, but it’s one of the best in the industry. Under the massive hood resides a 355-horsepower 5.3-liter V8 teamed with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Four-wheel drive is optional, as is a locking rear differential on 2WD models. The engine employs direct injection and Active Fuel Management allowing the Sierra Limited to run on fewer cylinders when not laboring, thus saving fuel.
