I have had my Jimmy for 4 years now. I have not had any real problems with it. Doesn't get very good gas mileage, about 16 miles to the gallon. I really thought it would get better mileage since it only has a 6 cylinder. The gas guage went out on it with in the first year of having it and it costs way too much to replace. Very comfortable for long trips, I've made 5 to Florida from Louisiana and back. I think that it a real pretty truck. Don't have a lot of quick power, but does real well after you peak. Overall, I have been real satisfied with everything except the gas milage. the ball joints completely separating on the left side disabling the vehicle and numerous other small defects such as u joint, crank shaft sensor and wiring problems. The list goes on and on. I bought this for me because I liked the styling. Unfortunately everything else has been a disappointment at best including the support I received from General Motors when presenting these issues to them. As a certified ASE General mechanic and a former General Motors dealership mechanic at a number of dealerships I expected much more in the way of customer service.

I've been a mechanic for a number of years and have worked on thousands of vehicles and I can tell you that this particular vehicle, series, is a reliability nightmare. I am finally at my wits end after the transmission exploded internally which followed the ball joints completely separating on the left side disabling the vehicle and numerous other small defects such as vacuum system failure, a wiring problems. The list goes on and on. I bought this for my wife because she liked the styling. Unfortunately everything else has been a disappointment at best including the support I received from General Motors when presenting these issues to them. As a certified ASE General mechanic and a former General Motors dealership mechanic at a number of dealerships I expected much more in the way of customer service.

My father bought this car brand new and currently April 2024 it is running perfectly. It has over 220,000 miles on it and just doing regular maintenance and keeping it up. It’s never in an accident. The only thing that I wish was better was the gas mileage but even that when it’s running correctly and smoothly, you get better mileage and also depending on where you’re driving… I plan to keep this truck forever.. it was my dad’s..
4.3 vortex excellent engine
Front is not roomy with 2 adults
Dependable, always starts even at 60 below. I live in Iowa. I change oil every 2000-2500 miles. Easy to change. I do regular maintenance loyalty. In snow it's 5 star. Compressor went out on ac. I put 5w-30 in winter and 10w-30 in summer. No synthetic blend or no full synthetic oil. Just Valvoline. Engine and tranny no problems.
Inexpensive, comfortable, versatile
Hard to work on, NEEDS regular maintenance
This rig gave me problems from the previous owner but other than that this thing has been a godsend. I’m a Missouri owner where we salt our roads yet it has 0 rust whatsoever. Only complaint on my end is how small it is and how much of a pain it is to work on. For its age and the 4.3L Vortec that’s in it this thing runs like a champ. As long as you keep it maintained the Jimmy will serve you well for years to come.

well after owning this suv for then 2 years the last owner realy didnt near enough to take care of it alot of the body its seft was rusted out which ive myseft had to fix it as well the seating isnt that great but its useable over all its good soild suv that if someone have time and money to put in it it can be a much better suv then ive can do with a limited income that ive have now tom protzman sturgeon bay wis.

Never changed the oil or did any maintenance, and for some reason, there is no reverse gear, and the transmission can not go past third gear. Only one tire spins in four-wheel drive, and there is rust in the muffler that caused holes. Overall can't wait to send it off a cliff, it was fun while it lasted.

Lip under rear wheel wells starting to rust
With 181000 miles i have waxed it twice a year. Wash it once a week. Change oil every 2000 miles. I have all maintenance performed by a certified mechanic...just Steve. I have NEVER been stranded on side of road. Only in my garage she did not start. Very satisfied with my reliable Jimmy.

Purchased 3D owner. Checked out ok from there nothing but bad news. Sound system out. Drivers side door came apart. Replaced 3 fuel pumps., front end, transfer case.
