The 2024 GMC Hummer EV Pickup is an in-your-face, high-performance brute with all the subtlety of its gasoline-fueled forebear. Pricing starts at $98,845.
It may be powered by electricity and full of the latest tech, but the latest Hummer is nevertheless a clear successor to the feral beast that roamed U.S. highways in the 1990s and 2000s. It’s among the biggest and brashest vehicles on the market today and remarkably capable off-road. But the Hummer EV Pickup is also faster than its predecessors, more comfortable, and can even drive itself to some degree, thanks to GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving system. All the while emitting zero tailpipe emissions. With more capability and fewer compromises, we think the latest Hummer is the greatest Hummer. There’s also a Hummer EV SUV, reviewed separately
We’ve tested all the electric trucks on sale today, including the Hummer EV Pickup.
The 2024 GMC Hummer EV pickup is rated for a GM-estimated driving range of 381 miles, up from a claimed maximum of 355 miles.
The 2024 GMC HUMMER EV Pickup has a starting sticker price of $98,845, with the range-topping HUMMER EV Pickup Omega Edition kicking off at $140,300. But Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Pricing currently suggests paying $2,472 to $3,508 less than MSRP, depending on trim and equipment. These prices are updated weekly.

---|---|---|---|---|

No matter which Hummer EV grade you choose, it’s much pricier than competitors like the Ford F-150 Lightning, Chevy Silverado EV, or the Rivian R1T. You won’t even snag the federal government’s $7,500 tax credit because the base price exceeds the price ceiling for qualifying. Moreover, because demand is exceeding production, you may find the wait for delivery, or even ordering, quite long. The primary difference between the 2X and 3X trims is the motor count with a boost in horsepower and torque. If we were shopping for the Hummer EV, we might stick with the 2X trim and pocket the $8,000 difference or invest it in a cool option or two, like the power retractable tonneau cover and Kicker tailgate audio system.
Before buying (or ordering) the GMC Hummer EV Pickup, check the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price to know what you should really pay. However, don’t expect to find any bargains.
We’ve found the tri-motor powertrain in the EV 3X thrilling. It delivers gobs of power to the wheels for commanding thrust and surprisingly agile handling thanks to the 4-wheel steering. Due to the massive electric torque, acceleration from a standstill is explosive, reaching 60 mph in just over 3 seconds. Still, the dual-motor EV 2X should provide more than enough power for most drivers. Granted, the Hummer EV’s more than 9,000 pounds of curb weight is a load, but the torque is more than enough to get this monster rolling. We are fans of one-pedal driving provided by some EVs, including the Hummer EV Pickup.
The Hummer EV Pickup is not as intimidating as you might think. Once we were settled in behind the wheel, it felt as smooth and comfortable as any premium truck, electric or otherwise. It manages all that power and torque smartly with an accelerator that’s easy to modulate. In our driving the Hummer EV, we never sensed the power was overwhelming. The Hummer EV Pickup also disguises its massive curb weight surprisingly well when it comes to everyday handling, with its sheer mass becoming a bit more perceptible when braking.
When off-road, the Hummer has some tricks up its sleeve, especially with the optional Extreme Off-Road Package. This option bundle includes 35-inch mud terrain tires, front and rear lockers, skid plates, ball spline half shafts, and more. The result is a truck that can handle just about any terrain as long as it’s not too soft. Driving anything that weighs over 9,000 pounds on soft sand or wet mud always has the potential of not ending well.
The Hummer EV 3X Pickup can tow up to 8,500 pounds. It has a 5-foot bed and max payload capacity of 1,300 pounds. For reference, the Ford F-150 Lightning is rated to tow 10,000 pounds and haul 2,000 pounds.
The interior of the Hummer EV Pickup is a pleasant setting with roomy, comfy seating. However, the nose-bleed price tag causes us to be pickier than normal when evaluating a GMC product. For a truck billing itself as a premium vehicle with a starting price over $95,000, we would argue that it seems a bit lacking compared to luxury SUVs in this price range. Technology, though, is a strong suit of the Hummer EV Pickup. We like the customizable digital gauge cluster and the Google-powered infotainment system. It’s all very user-friendly. Moreover, it has sharp-looking graphics without being too distracting.
Looking nothing like its EV rivals – or anything else, for that matter – the GMC Hummer EV Pickup is a big, hulking truck attracting lots of attention. It does an excellent job executing a futuristic aesthetic, yet manages to pay homage to the Hummer’s heritage as a rugged military vehicle. We noticed some fun Easter eggs throughout the design, like the letter “H” hidden in the lighting and the wheels, as well as American flags on the C-pillars. One of our favorite exterior features is the six-function MultiPro tailgate borrowed from the GMC Sierra.
Infinity Roof
Available removable roof panels allow you to more fully commune with nature.
Super Cruise
The standard Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system allows for hands-free driving on over 400,000 miles of highway in North America.
CrabWalk
The standard CrabWalk system uses 4-wheel steering to make maneuvering around obstacles in off-road driving easier.
Watts to Freedom
Buckle up; the available Watts to Freedom feature launches this electric truck from 0-60 mph in about three seconds.
UltraVision
The UltraVision system employs up to 18 camera views so you can see everything around you — and even under you — for parking and off-roading.
MultiPro tailgate
The MultiPro tailgate has six different modes. This flexible tailgate can function as a load-stop, steps, and even a desk.
The 2024 GMC Hummer EV Pickup offers a GM-estimated maximum range of 381 miles from a full charge. That’s a big number for such a massive vehicle, and comes via the Hummer EV 3X with the $9,995 extended-range battery. Add the Extreme Off-Road Package for another $9,995 and total range drops to 359 miles. Max range can dip to just below 300 miles at the other end of the Hummer EV lineup. With a Level 3 DC fast charger, GM says you can add an estimated 100 miles of range in 12 minutes under optimal conditions. Using a Level 2 charger with a 240-volt power source takes just over 16 hours to go from 20% to 100%.
Some things never change. In pickup and SUV form, the GMC Hummer EV is about the least-efficient electric vehicle on the market. With EPA efficiency figures hovering around 50 MPGe, it uses more than twice as much electricity to cover the same distance as something like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, for instance. Even the Ford F-150 Lightning is as much as 40% more efficient than the Hummer EV. The 24-module, extended-range battery is necessarily massive, providing 212 kWh of storage. You can find more Hummer EV efficiency information on the EPA’s website.
GMC provides bumper-to-bumper limited warranty coverage for three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. Powertrain components are covered for five years or 60,000 miles, and the EV battery is covered for eight years or 100,000 miles. This is the same as the Ford F-150 Lightning and Chevy Silverado EV.
Neither the government nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has crash/safety tested the GMC Hummer EV Pickup. However, it does come with a robust bundle of advanced driver-assist and safety technology. Included are automatic emergency front/rear braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and more.
