Positive Review
The 2011 GMC Acadia SLT-2 AWD is an overall outstanding vehicle. I am 6'02" and 200lbs and have four teenaged daughters. All four of my captains chairs are extremely comfortable and roomy and while I cannot say the same for the third row, my children have no complaints. The 288hp engine provides excellent power for towing either our camp trailer or boat. We added the optional tow package which boosted our towing capacity to 5200lbs. There is plenty of interior room for our suitcases behind the third row which was a huge bonus over our Pilot. We love the improved comfort, convenience of controls, mechanical reliability, and heavier hauling of our GMC Acadia. While our Pilot was a good car, our Acadia is a great car. I would highly recommend it to those that can afford it.
Critical Review
we really like the design, it's the only SUV of it's size that has a rugged off road style, not that I recommend taking it off road :-) . Lots of interior room, pretty well put together and it holds 7 people comfortably with room to spare behind the back seat. It handles well and is a smooth ride. My complaint and recommendation of a warrantee comes in play with my having 11 repairs in 5 years of light, well maintained use. It kind of fell apart beginning around 30K miles and went on and on until our most recent visit for a transmission replacement @ 105K miles. Several of the repairs were known problems which they addressed if you knew enough to research it. I had to fight with GMC to get my tranny changed out. There are page after page of complaints on this tranny issue and the manufacturer was aware of the problem. Same with the power steering, it just quit working one day... another known issue I looked up and made them handle. blah, blah, blah... all this and we still enjoy driving it, fortunately, almost all engine related components have been replaced so we will keep it for a while longer

When I purchased the Acadia used at around 45,000 miles, absolutely loved it! A lot of space, seemed to handle well in snow. Right around 100,000 had to replace the motor. Do NOT follow the recommendations for oil changes, they suggest. Learned the hard way, and since replaced we changed the oil every 3,000 regardless. Vehicle in the shop every few months for more issues. Replaced multiple parts in those 3 years that never resolved the problems. Hopefully they fixed the motor problems in newer versions as I know several people with same issue on the older Acadia. This has personally scared me from buying another.
This vehicle it a really good family vehicle and is really reliable for family trips and vacations. This is my daily driver but I’m looking to upgrade to a truck.
It has a little over 79 thousand miles. Don't use oil been kept in the carport Has all the bells and whistles Has on star. Everything works great. Had the oil changed every 5 thousand miles and the tires rotated every oil change. Color is red. Cheap on gas.
Clean, dependable, 3 row seats 7 . all wheel drive No accidents Silver exterior, black leather interior
Engine is strong. Interior room is nice.
Maintenance and repairs plaque this vehicle. Transmissions simply do not last.
Wifey and I bought the 2016 SLE Acadia with roughly 88K miles on it. Little did we know in the next 5 years what we would be in for. Simply put this vehicle is a maintenance money pit. Sure we originally loved the spacious interior room and great /strong engine. Within the first 3-6 months we had the mysterious weird transmission shifting(talk about the transmission again later). Alternator and battery had to be replaced. At year 3/4 of ownership air conditioning line had to be replaced. Moving on to year 4/5 with year 5 being the current ownership time and a whopping 100000 miles later we have had to replace the water pump, that still has a mysterious slow leak. Within the last 60 days we have had to replace a lower and upper engine mount and now to seal the coffin a mysterious shuddering in the transmission. As stated before there has always been a mysterious weird transmission shift in the Acadia since we purchased the vehicle that was downplayed by GMC even though there are multiple complaints and technical bulletins posted. Now officially we have weird but annoying shuddering at low to moderate acceleration that doesn’t happen all the time and it depends on how you accelerate. GMC without testing the Torque Converter or taking anything apart gives me the news of needing a new transmission $6200. My opinion, when compared to my 2010 Nissan maxima with over 200K miles, my GMC Acadia was just not built to last and GMC to me doesn’t stand behind their product. I simply cannot see myself purchasing another GMC new or used.
Comfort, smooth ride, cargo space, third row, vehicle design on exterior
Mechanical issues, bad transmissions, cheaply made features, money pit
I have not been a fan of our Acadia. We bought it with 115,000 miles on it. Yes, higher mileage, but it doesn't seem GM vehicles are made to last to 200K+. We've had constant transmission issues. We got a rebuild of the transmission and only 6 months later, it started having issues again. We also just found out the rear differential needs replaced, which new is over $3200, so nearly $7000 in repairs. We've had issues with exhaust holes, engine leaks, must I go on? It almost doesn't seem worth it to me at this point. Plus creaky brake pedal, cheaply made seatbelts and knobs that have broken. Also the windows will not roll up and down anymore. Constant TPMS and airbag warning lights. The crash detection goes off randomly when I am not even near any other driver. The list goes on and on. I am not a fan!!! If we weren't still paying off our loan I'd be getting rid of it immediately. The only reason I gave two stars is b/c of the cargo space, third row, smooth ride on the highway and the look of the vehicle.
Good ride, good space, and pretty good power for a suv. Only thing is it’s a gamble with reliability. Transmission fluid problems, hoses, coolant leaks…
Comfort, style, acceleration, snow performance
Unreliable, never know when it will run right
Bought 5 years ago a SLT1 model, beautiful, comfortable SUV. Has all the "bells and whistles". When it runs well, it's a great vehicle to travel in, anywhere! Problem is, it's been the worst when it comes to reliability, even after having the timing chains, guides and gears all replaced. Ran good, for about 15K miles after that and then timing sensors started to go, replaced all 4 and then another 10K miles and CAT's went at about 170K miles ($2000 later) new CATS and gas mileage was only averaging about 19MPG highway where it used to be 22+ MPG highway 20K miles ago. I would advise staying well clear of buying one of these used. I have been a mechanic for 45+ years and the GM 3.6L V6 VVT engine is the worst thing GM has put in any vehicle, steer clear would be my advice. Oil consumption is a large issue and that's what causes the timing chain failures.
