What Owners are Saying About the 1996 Geo Metro

"Best bang for the buck"

"I bought my 95 base model hatchback 6 months ago with 108,900 miles on it, it now has 124,500 on it. I've averaged 47 MPG, and have hit a low of 40 MPG (doing 70+ MPH with 2 passengers and a lot of gear) and a high of 51.6 MPG (better driving control and techniques, speeds of 50 MPH max). I've only had to replace an axle due to a ripped open CV boot. The car runs like a champ and is very reliable. I'm religious with the maintenence (oil changed every 5,000 miles, with 1 quart added after 4,000 miles) and the car has no problems. The 95 is a huge improvement over the 94 (I owned one before, sucked bad). The car handles better, has a much more comfortable interior (as well as dual air bags), and is styled much better. It's a great car for anyone looking to save a fortune in fuel and insurance, as well as be able to maneuver through traffic easily. So far in 15,200 miles I've saved 448.886 gallons of gas (roughly 2738.2 lbs, and the car only weighs 1751 lbs) over a 20 MPG car (the average car on the road in the USA right now). That's $1246.69 total saved. I paid only $1200 for the car and it's a sound investment so long as you can keep up with the maintenence when it's due. Sure it may not have much power and will struggle up a hill, but that's minor compared to all the money and fuel you'll save."

"10 years 0 problems"

"10 years and never needed anything except tires. Never been to a shop. Always gets 45 MPG in town and up to 58MPG ion road trips."

"10 years and still going"

"I got my Geo slightly used and have driven it for over 10 years. It's still going strong with minimal maintenance costs. It's fun to drive and gets fantastic gas mileage, even after two trips from the West Coast to the Midwest and a few months of commuting 200+ miles every week for work. I currently commute 40 miles to and 40 miles from work every day. One thing to note, though -- I got a great deal on tires at Costco, but they were slightly wider than recommended for my car. This reduced my gas mileage considerably. So make sure you get the right tires!"
