The 2025 Genesis GV80 Coupe is a new, sleeker, sportier variant of the excellent GV80 midsize luxury SUV. Pricing starts at $81,400.
Avid readers of the Kelley Blue Book news section will recall seeing this. Well, the concept that eventually led to this production model. Of course, it’s not a coupe in the traditional sense, but one of those SUVs with a fastback roof that marketing departments love to call coupes. Think of the relationship between the BMW X5 and X6, the Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV and the GLE Coupe, or the Porsche Cayenne and the Cayenne Coupe.
Now Genesis is getting in on the act, unveiling this sleeker version of the GV80 SUV. The SUV offers the option of a third seating row; this Coupe does not for obvious reasons. That roof cuts down on headroom and cargo space—although not as much as you’d think—to pursue extra style. We think it’s good to have the choice.
We’ve spent hundreds of hours driving and researching this generation of midsize luxury SUVs, including the 2025 Genesis GV80 Coupe.
Although the GV80 SUV launched for the 2021 model year, this GV80 Coupe variant is all-new.
The 2025 Genesis GV80 Coupe has a starting sticker price of $81,400, with the range-topping GV80 Coupe 3.5T e-SC kicking off at $87,200. But Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Pricing currently suggests paying $5,365 to $5,747 less than MSRP, depending on trim and equipment. These prices are updated weekly.
MSRP | KBB Fair Purchase Price (national avg.) | |||
---|---|---|---|---|
$81,400 | $76,035 | |||
$87,200 | $81,453 |
For comparison, the 2024 BMW X6 begins around $75K. The current Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe variants are AMG models exclusively, starting at about $90K, though a lower-priced, non-AMG variant is coming for 2025.
Before buying a new GV80 Coupe, check the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price to know what you should be paying. We expect GV80 Coupe resale value to be about typical for the segment. Remember, recouping more money when you sell a vehicle can mean a bigger down payment and lower monthly payments on your next one.
The base engine offered in the 2025 GV80 Coupe is a twin-turbocharged V6 rated at 375 horsepower. It puts the GV80 Coupe on a similar footing as the BMW X6 xDrive40i — in other words, the base X6.
However, fueling the Coupe’s sportier aspirations is a model-exclusive engine: the same V6 with an additional electric supercharger to create 409 hp. This engine also brings a Sport+ driving mode and launch control. Both V6-powered variants have an adaptive suspension system that reads the road ahead and adjusts its settings accordingly.
The GV80 Coupe e-Supercharger’s Sport+ driving mode provides crisper upshifts and quicker throttle response, making the most of the GV80 Coupe’s engaging, precise steering. Launch control enables quick acceleration from a stop and more forceful shifts, although it’s not the violent experience it can be in some dedicated performance vehicles.
Firm, precise steering and very little body roll complement the GV80 Coupe’s sporty look, and the extra power and torque of the available e-SC make it surprisingly quick. Although it’s not a sports car, we enjoy driving it and appreciate its firm but generally comfortable ride.
Fuel Economy
For all their good qualities, a lot of Genesis vehicles don’t list excellent fuel economy among them. The 2025 GV80 Coupe’s sleeker lines don’t translate to any fuel savings over its SUV alternative, as the base 3.5T AWD matches the 19 mpg combined rating of the GV80 SUV. The e-SC version, despite being more powerful, is also slightly more efficient at 18 mpg city, 22 mpg highway, and 20 mpg combined — a direct result of the electric supercharger adding low-end torque.
Both of the GV80 Coupe’s powertrains are more powerful but less efficient compared to the BMW X6 xDrive40i’s 24 mpg combined rating. The Porsche Cayenne Coupe offers similar gas mileage to the GV80 Coupe at 19 mpg combined.
The 2025 GV80 Coupe’s back seat might look like it would be compromised on headroom due to that swoopy roof line, but in truth there’s just 0.8 inches less headroom than in the standard GV80 SUV, meaning there’s plenty of room even for 6-foot-plus rear-seat passengers. Cargo volume is similar to the SUV, too, with 30.3 cubic feet of volume behind the power-folding second-row seats, or 62.1 cubic feet behind the first row. The GV80 SUV, for comparison, offers 36.5 cubic feet behind the second row and 71.7 cubic feet behind the first row.
Like the refreshed 2025 GV80 SUV, the new GV80 Coupe also gets a monolithic 27-inch display spanning the instrument area and the center infotainment area. Sport-themed interior enhancements unique to the Coupe include a D-shaped flat-bottom steering wheel and metal pedals. Throughout the cabin, the leather, plastics, and metallic elements all reflect the same quality and flair for design found in other Genesis products. Genesis is also offering model-exclusive interior color schemes and a unique exterior color for the Coupe called Bering Blue.
The 2025 GV80 Coupe debuts simultaneously as its SUV counterpart receives a mid-generation revamp. So, the SUV’s revised grille and new headlamps are also part of the new Coupe’s exterior. The big difference, though, is that roof. Everyone will have their take on this, but we think the proportions work. If anyone ever considered the BMW X6 a somewhat awkward derivation of the X5, their aesthetic senses may react better to the GV80 Coupe.
e-Supercharger
The 48-volt electric supercharger helping to add low-end boost to the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine is invisible and inaudible, and it’s so smooth you’ll never feel it “kick in,” but it’s always there, boosting torque and saving gas.
Launch control
Despite being a luxury coupe-SUV and not a supercar, the new GV80 Coupe comes with launch control. In addition to sharpening the shifts, the system raises the torque converter’s stall speed to around 2,000 rpm to help build boost and improve the launch.
27-inch screen
Although many carmakers house multiple screens in a single large enclosure, few of the new dash-width screens on the market are actually a single, continuous display — but the one in the GV80 Coupe (and refreshed 2025 GV80 SUV) is a single unit. That means display elements can span the full width, making for a seamless, high-tech look. Being an OLED display, the colors are also vibrant and bright in just about any condition.
All-wheel drive
All versions of the 2025 GV80 Coupe come with all-wheel drive as standard equipment. The drive system is rear-biased, sending 50-100% of the engine’s torque to the rear wheels.
Fully loaded
No matter which drivetrain you choose, the GV80 Coupe comes with a fully loaded options list, including leather upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, Bang & Olufsen audio, tri-zone climate control, abundant safety systems, and far too much more to list here. If you choose the GV80 Coupe e-SC, you’ll add sporty elements like alloy pedals, carbon fiber trim, quad muffler tips, 22-inch alloy wheels, and monobloc front brakes with black-painted calipers.
The base engine in the GV80 Coupe is the optional engine in the GV80 SUV: a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 rated at 375 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque. From there, the Coupe takes things to another level with an exclusive 3.5-liter V6 turbocharged and supercharged to produce 409 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque. The 8-speed automatic transmission used in the GV80 SUV is installed here and all-wheel drive (AWD) is standard, in common with its boxier brethren.
Like its parent company, Hyundai, Genesis offers the best warranties in the business. The new-vehicle warranty lasts five years or 60,000 miles (whichever happens first), roadside assistance is provided for five years with unlimited mileage, and scheduled maintenance is free for the first three years or 36,000 miles. Powertrains are covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles.
The current generation of the GV80 SUV has been named a Top Safety Pick+, the highest accolade from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). It’s also earned a maximum 5-Star overall score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). We anticipate similar results if the GV80 Coupe is put through the same crash-test programs.

After a week in the GV80 Coupe, I was stuck on the word “curated.” It’s perhaps the best summation of why some luxury cars exist.
The 2025 Genesis GV80 Coupe is a sleeker and more powerful take on the automaker’s popular GV80 midsize SUV. Let’s go for a ride.
