The 2020 Genesis G90 is a full-size sedan flagship from Hyundai’s luxury operation. It might lack prestige and dazzling technologies found in well-established German rivals like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7 Series but the G90 strikes back with a similarly opulent demeaner and a comparatively modest price tag. Familiarize yourself with the grandest of Genesis’s and you’ll discover premium materials, a wealth of advanced driver-assist technologies, excellent build quality, a hushed cabin, and a plush ride. Fueled by strong value, a lengthy 10-year powertrain warranty, and a revised exterior that paints a convincing picture of affluence, the 2020 Genesis G90 has the gravitas to shake up the large luxury sedan landscape.
2020 Genesis G90 pricing starts at $33,026 for the G90 3.3T Premium Sedan 4D, which had a starting MSRP of $73,225 when new. The range-topping 2020 G90 5.0 Ultimate Sedan 4D starts at $31,220 today, originally priced from $76,725.

Aligning with the pampered premise of large-luxury sedans the Genesis G90 rides with a supple feel that recalls Cadillacs of yore…at least with the drive mode switched to comfort. That graceful, floating quality coupled with library-like interior tones help keep the world and all its imperfections safely outside. Adding to the G90’s serene ride quality, is smooth yet strong power from the 3.3-liter turbocharged V-6 or optional 5.0-liter V-8. Largely transparent shifts from the 8-speed automatic transmission help ensure the important executive riding in back doesn’t spill their morning coffee. Ditch the exec and, with Sport mode select, the suspension’s adaptive dampers tighten, and the throttle sharpens, imparting the G90 with an athletic if not outright sporty spirit when cornering. Used as intended the tranquil 2020 G90 knocks out hours in the saddle without fatiguing its occupants.
The true test of a luxury sedan can be found inside. Are the materials soft? Do occupants feel special when they climb aboard? In the G90’s case soft Nappa leather adorns the seats, door panels and armrests, while the wood trim comes from actual trees. Yup, the interior has a soft, elevated quality. Mellowing our praise, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class has more flash and keen observers might note similarities between Genesis’s flagship and less products from corporate cousins Hyundai and Kia. Nonetheless, the G90 has a lush, welcoming aura that whispers “luxury”.
Bolstering the G90’s visual presence for 2020 is a thoroughly reworked exterior that employs striking horizontal body lines and lighting elements along with Genesis’s G-Matrix design motif. That G-Matrix concept is expressed most notably in the massive new grille and optional 19-inch wheels that look hard to clear but certainly make an impression. While the 2019 G90 laid low, hiding behind an understated facade, the 2020 G90 sedan is proud to make its presence known.
STANDARD SAFETY SUITE
Where active safety is concerned the 2020 G90 puts its best foot forward. Highlights include collision avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, full-speed adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, a blind view display in the gauge cluster, and a vivid 360-degree camera system offering a range of helpful views.
REAR SEAT
The best seat in the G90 house is in the back of the 5.0 Ultimate trim whose two outboard seats feature power/memory adjustment and ventilation. Choose the right rear perch and you can even motor the front seat forward to bask in outlandish leg room.
A “basic” 2020 Genesis G90 3.3T Premium comes filled with the luxury-flagship-sedan essentials including leather, a 22-way power-adjustable/heated/ventilated driver’s seat, a 16-way-power front-passenger seat, power rear sunshades, and a valet service that retrieves your vehicle for service appointments.
On the information and entertainment fronts the 3.3T Premium trim includes a standard 17-speaker/900-watt Lexicon audio system plus a 360-degree camera system displayed on a 12.3-inch infotainment display that can be operated by a control knob or directly via touchscreen inputs.
The only true option is all-wheel drive and it’s offered with either engine. For fancier accouterments buyers must step up to the G90 5.0 Ultimate trim. Do so and you’ll enjoy a stout 5.0-liter V8 engine along dual 10.3-inch rear-seat entertainment screens and ventilated, power adjusting rear seats featuring power head restraints and memory settings.
Underneath its revised exterior the G90 engine choices carry over unchanged from 2019. With roughly similar torque figure versus the optional naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8, the base twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 is a perfectly satisfying mill. That said, opting for the V8 increases horsepower to boast-worthy territory while upgrading the G90’s rear quarters. For those concerned with efficiency, be warned; both engines require premium fuel and return worse fuel economy than the BMW 740i, Cadillac CT6 and Mercedes-Benz S550. All G90 versions use a smooth-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission, with rear-wheel drive (RWD) standard and all-wheel drive (AWD) available as an option.

Highway Driving Assist
This newly standard feature helps the driver maintain the center of a lane on well-marked highway and 2-lane roads, while keeping a safe distance from the car ahead. The system can work in conjunction with the G90’s other driver assists such as traffic sign recognition, which can slow or increase vehicle speed based on posted speed limit signs.
Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist
Unlike some rear cross-traffic systems that only warn of an approaching vehicle, the G90’s standard system can activate the brakes to stop the car before an accident can occur. The system only works when reversing at speeds less than 6 mph and with approaching vehicles moving no faster than 22 mph.
Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go
Adaptive cruise control also comes standard on the G90, but this system includes the ability to bring the car to complete stop and then resume speed once the traffic ahead begins to move again.

For the 2023 model year, the G90 flagship of the Genesis line of luxury vehicles will set you back…
The Genesis G90 may be the best car nobody knows about. It competes with super-luxury sedans like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class…
With very few changes this year, the 2022 Genesis G90 is largely a carryover of last year’s model. Power comes…
On paper, the Genesis compares nicely to luxury cars like the BMW 7 Series, Lexus LS and Audi A8. It offers similar power, performance and features, but does so for thousands, sometimes tens of thousands less. The only thing money can’t buy is how impressed your friends and colleagues will be by the Genesis name.
The G90 3.3T has a starting price just over $70,000, while the more powerful G90 5.0 starts closer to $75,000. That’s thousands less than the BMW 7 Series, Lexus LS and Audi A8, but more expensive than the smaller Cadillac CT6.
While the G90’s emblem does bear some resemblance to Bentley’s winged fly “B” badge, the two companies have nothing in common. Genesis is actually the luxury division of Korean auto giant Hyundai motors.
While the Genesis brand in relatively new, it has earned a good reputation among its owners for reliable service and longevity. Genesis owners also report a good experience with the dealer network, especially when it comes to dealing with unexpected repairs.
