Pros

  • Loaded with luxurious features
  • Lots of tech and safety systems
  • Standard all-wheel drive

Cons

  • Offered in one trim only
  • Range doesn’t break 300-mile barrier
  • Available only in eight states (starting in September)

What's New?

Electrified G80 is all-new for 2023

The Electrified G80 is the second all-electric vehicle from Genesis and follows on the heels of the all-new Genesis GV60 SUV. While the GV60 is an all-new model and only available as an electric, the Electrified G80 is the battery-powered sibling to the standard G80 (reviewed separately).

The Electrified G80 offers the choice of exactly one trim. The good news is that the single trim comes exceptionally well equipped, packed with everything from a massaging driver’s seat to a full suite of advanced safety features and driving aids.

The Electrified G80 also comes standard with all-wheel drive (AWD) and is juiced by two motors that build 365 horsepower and a substantial 516 lb-ft of torque. Total range pegs at 282 miles. That’s commendable, though notably less than what you’d get in a Tesla Model S. Then again, we expect the Electrified G80 to cost considerably less than a Tesla, likely around $70,000 when it arrives in late summer or early fall of 2022.

To buy one initially, you’ll have to live in California, New York, New Jersey, or Connecticut. Sales in four additional states, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and Washington, begin in September.

2023 Genesis Electrified G80 Pricing

2023 Genesis Electrified G80 pricing starts at $41,634 for the Electrified G80 Electrified G80 Sedan 4D, which had a starting MSRP of $80,950 when new. The range-topping 2023 Electrified G80 Electrified G80 Sedan 4D starts at $41,634 today, originally priced from $80,950.

The Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price for any individual used vehicle can vary greatly according to mileage, condition, location, and other factors. The prices here reflect what buyers are currently paying for used 2023 Genesis Electrified G80 models in typical condition when purchasing from a dealership. These prices are updated weekly.

Driving the Genesis Electrified G80

Do you like the strong and silent type? Then the Genesis Electrified G80 might just garner your attention. And if you favor comfortable cruising over canyon-carving dynamics, well, then swipe right. The Electrified G80 feels exactly as it should: a big, luxurious, all-electric executive sedan.

With two motors on board, the Electrified G80 has a total output of 365 horsepower — just 10 below the twin-turbo V6 used in the G80 sport — and 516 lb-ft of torque, which is 125 lb-ft more than the top gas model, as long as we’re doing the math. As with the G80 Sport, the Electrified G80 gets AWD standard.

Our first drive of the Electrified G80 began in Bentonville, Arkansas, and took us through the Ozarks, into and out of Missouri, and over all manner of highway and byway. Left to its own devices in Normal mode, the all-electric Genesis G80 proved whisper-quiet, steady, and smooth.

It wafted like a silent predator, whooshing past slower traffic and busy gas stations alike. It felt at home owning the interstates, dressed in a designer gown. Yet it can also slip into some expensive athleisure wear and break a sweat if you’re so inclined. Just switch into Sport mode, and here a stab of the accelerator will briefly pin you to the seat and remind you why the fastest cars these days are electric.

The Electrified G80 isn’t exactly a sports sedan, but it plays willingly on mountain roads. Grip is great, and the steering feel is above average. We should also note there is an Eco mode for those seeking the greatest range, but we seldom used it since this mode mutes throttle application so much that it felt like the Fun Police were crashing the party. Speaking of range, the Electrified G80’s 282 miles of it never gave us anxiety.

Also noteworthy is the Electrified G80’s regenerative braking. Using the paddles on the steering wheel, you can cycle through levels of regen, from none to a maximum setting that allows one-pedal driving to a full stop. Once you get used to this — and it doesn’t take long — you may never want to go back to a regular car again.

Interior Comfort

Not surprisingly, the Electrified G80 boasts an interior similar to the standard G80. That is to say, it’s posh, filled with tech features, and comfortable. One difference does arise in rear-seat legroom. Whereas the standard G80 has a roomy second row, the Electrified version is a bit more snug.

Up front, things only get better, especially if you’re sitting in the driver’s seat. It is all-day comfortable and has the major perk of being heated, cooled, and touting a massage function for both legs and back.

There are also plenty of screens. The instrument cluster is a 12.3-inch 3D display, while a 14.5-inch widescreen display fronts the infotainment system. Below is another smaller screen that relays climate functions.

There are plenty of physical buttons to control common functions like climate and audio. A prominent round dial controls infotainment functions, and a similar round dial below that acts as the gear shifter. Please don’t confuse these, as we did upon our initial test drive.

Pertinent to this EV’s eco theme, Genesis says the leather upholstery and other fabrics are “eco-friendly,” and the cabin uses forged-wood trim. Finally, let’s talk interior colors. The Electrified G80 offers three, and one is definitely one of a kind. There’s the expected black or brown, and the unexpected Dark Lagoon Green.

Two other notes: A moonroof is not available, even as an option, in the name of weight savings. And the trunk is slightly smaller than the standard G80’s.

Exterior Styling

Design is always in the eyes of the beholder, but we wager the majority of eyeballs will think the Electrified G80 looks pretty brilliant. This G80 electric variant mostly mimics the gasoline model, though the Electrified G80 has a unique rear bumper (no exhaust outlets, remember?), and its own grille with an integrated charging port. Exclusive 19-inch wheels are also part of the package.

Still, it will take a keen eye for an observer to know this G80 runs on electrons instead of gasoline. This model doesn’t shout, “I’m all-electric!” — something many a buyer might just desire.

This model’s more extensive use of aluminum in the body panels is even more invisible. This weight-saving metal helps counter the mass of those heavy batteries. Back at the surface, nine paint colors are available, with the exclusive Matira Blue stealing the show. That’s named after a beach in Bora Bora, by the way.

Favorite Features

ONE LOADED TRIM
Indecisive EV shoppers, rejoice. Unlike most other vehicles, there are not several versions of the Electrified G80 to choose from. There’s just one trim, and it’s loaded.

LEXICON AUDIO SYSTEM
Electric vehicles are mostly silent, which makes the superior audio of the Electrified G80’s standard Lexicon system sound even better. Lexicon, for the uninitiated, is among the most well-regarded names among audiophiles.

Standard Features

As we’ve mentioned, the Electrified G80 is only available in one trim, loaded to the gills with features.

Highlights include leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated/power-operated steering wheel, massaging driver’s seat (just press that little button on the left below the cushion), heated rear seats, a 21-speaker 1,050-watt Lexicon audio system, 3-zone climate control, a head-up display, and a power-operated trunk.

On the tech front, there’s a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 14.5-inch touchscreen display with navigation, HD Radio, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. If you must have Wi-Fi in your car, though, look elsewhere.

On the safety front, you get adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, a surround-view camera, the Highway Driving Assist semi-autonomous system, Blind-Spot View Monitor that shows a real-time video feed in the instrument cluster when you engage a turn signal, and high-beam assist.

Also included is Remote Smart Parking Assist, which lets you impress neighbors and valet attendants alike by pulling the car in and out of tight parking spaces by standing outside and using the key fob. Magic!

Factory Options

At this point, we are not aware of anything else that you can add to the Electrified G80. There will possibly be some dealer-installed options that arise once it gets closer to sale.

Engine & Transmission

The Electrified G80 is all-electric, powered by an 87.2 kWh battery pack and two electric motors. AWD is standard. Driving range is estimated at 282 miles. The Genesis Electrified G80 can charge from 10% to 100% capacity in 7 hours and 22 minutes on a 240-watt Level 2 charger. It takes just 22 minutes to juice to 80% on a Level 3 DC fast charger.

Also good to know: The Electrified G80 has vehicle-to-load technology, allowing you to keep the lights on at home or even charge another electric vehicle should the need arise.

Highway Driving Assist

This system can combine adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance to take much of the stress out of freeway driving — even in stop-and-go traffic.
