Positive Review
This van has with stood hard use and operation with basic maintenance. Brakes are solid and engine has kept it's power. Drives well. The electrical sensors are inconsistent. Door locks will sometimes activate off and on when driving. Overall it has been comfortable and reliable in all weather.
Critical Review
Bought this van in February with about 114,000 miles on it from a dealership. Felt that at $5,000 I might be overpaying a little, but it was worth it. Aside from one issue*, it's been very reliable, even in Wisconsin winters. Drives nice in the snow as well. *The one issue I had was one that, luckily, the dealership took care of. When I purchased it, the check engine light was on; code read faulty O2 sensors. Turns out, it wasn't the O2 sensors, but a problem with some gaskets in the intake degrading and causing a vacuum leak. If you ever have a 3.8 engine say the O2 sensors on both banks are running lean, have the mechanic check for this.

reliable, easy to drive
old technology
The 2003 Windstar is just great. I've owned it since it was new. In total, I have replaced the alternator and that was the only thing. Of course, I have replaced the battery twice, tires and windshield wipers, but those are things which are expected to wear out. I did have to replace the driver's side window regulator. So basically a care-free car.
Reliable
Too big
Great family vehicle
It's fun to drive and luxurious at the same time.
Parts for it can be a bit pricey and hard to find.
I've never driven a minivan before so this is my first impression. Good solid vehicle with a lot of room. The front leather seats are a little slippery and the lumbar support isn't that good. But they're comfortable and built for tall people. I bought mine used, but most of the repair work has been on things that wear out over time. I like the handling, it's very smooth and responsive. I like the power sliding doors and the fold down second and third row seats. My only complaint is about the visibility out the factory tinted rear window; it's a bit difficult at night. My vehicle is the SEL trim package so it came with leather seats, body trims, and alloy wheels.
Rusty but justy
very good price and easy to drive
This van drives like a car, which I love. It meet all my needs when it came to transporting bulky items. I was a great fit for my children as they were growing up. I truly enjoy my van and would recommend it to anyone.
Spacious, Reliable, Family and Travel
100K 1 big issue. Con is I sold it before 200k!
Owned the 2003 Ford Windstar SE since 2004. Bought it with 40K. Owned it up until 190K and traded it in with 1K credit. This van raised my kids! Internally, its solid as tank! I did extensive research and its width and space is unmatched. Ford built a reliable solid van with affordable parts to replace as needed. I wanted to keep it but had to trade it in and I wish I had kept it. Heres a quick summary of issues: Transmission went out ONLY after taking it up to the mountains at 150K. Should never have done that! Dont stress the transmission out like that and it will treat you like a king / queen. Steering pump, rack and pion went out. This was going to happen at 100K and it did. Replaced it and it was the most cost investment out side of the transmission. Lighting started to flicker inside. Theres a common short in the back door liftgate so if you have this issue, its an easy fix. Starter and alternator went out. To be expected at 120k Purge Valve hum humming noise. Part is under 100 but getting to the root of the issue is like pulling teeth. Never did find it and dealer service dept could not find issue out either. This 2003 Windstar upsides are all upsides! Room is unmatched. Solid vehicle with AC that continued to blow cold air after 190k miles. It could have gone 220K or higher. If you are lucky enough to get this van, get it! Low miles preferred and it will last well past 150k.
I bought this van with 70,000 miles its still got a lot of miles left in her we had a new torque converter in 3 yrs ago,the motor is great starts right up when its cold out, the trans is automatic the interior need some cleaning. its big enough in back to put a power chair in the back end.its got 4 bucket seats ,a/c front and back heater frt and bck heated rear window, we would like to get a car or another van..im not afraid to drive it any where..
A van that provided a "Truck" capability.
Electric issues
Other than the rear axle and sub frame recalls, our Windstar has provided years of reliable transportation.230,000 miles and I would believe it could make it to 300,000. My wife is finding it difficult to part with our Windstar. The little things like the small mirror to see the rear passengers, power adjustable accelerator / brake peddle, compartment space, adjustable rear bench seat for more cargo. The uses of towing, moving our three children in /out of college and traveling made us fall in love with this vehicle. My wife test drove other manufactures Vans, Suv's, Crossover's but still compared the Windstar's ride and the mentioned "little things" the others didn't have. We previously owned two Ford Areostars Vans. Both driven over 210,000 miles. Ford should forget about the self parking cars and bring back the simple "Like's" owners write about.
