Positive Review
We have a new 09 SEL Flex that is approaching 10,000 miles, we purchased it back in February 09. As I realize for most the outer look of the vehicle is what makes it or breaks it for them, the entire vehicle is very nice. I am a 150lb. 5'11'' American and I fit nicely in it, but a 280lb. friend of mine also fits nicely in it. The interior is large and comfortable, even the third row. We were also looking at a Mitubishi Outlander & Saturn VUE, but the comfortability of the Flex far surpassed the Outlander & the VUE. The bad side is that it is a little pricey, but it truly does ride and feel like a luxery vehicle. We tend to get 22 or 23 mpg on average, I have never gotten 24 mpg as is reported for this vehicle. This vehicle is best for road trips. The newer/different design yet large interior capacity for people and packing was one of the main reasons we chose it. We did not want to go the route of a minivan so we looked at SUV's and this is what I would consider to be a VAN / SUV Crossover. I will post more reviews as we accumulate more miles.
Critical Review
Even though I have a maintenance record folder 2 inches thick and always used synthetic blend oil at every oil change, did the transmission service as required, one day on the freeway with my son, the the Flex began to rapidly loose power and eventually die. Luckily I was able to get out of the lanes of traffic. This event happened just 40 miles outside of the extended waranty I purchased when I bought the car. Sure it was covered until 100K, I get that, but my windstar minivan made it over 220K before I had to rebuild the transmission, and my escape (that I have since traded in for a new Dodge vehicle) was also over 200K (and not maintained nearky as well as this Flex). I guess I trusted Ford a little too much by expecting it to even make it over 200K without issues. I have worked as a designer for Ford (thru tier 1 suppliers) and have owned Ford vehicles for 20 years now, I will never buy or reccomend another. It would stop there had Ford Corporate been so uncareing or even appologetic about my situation. I now stop everyone I see in a Flex and warn them of this defect. Check the internet and you will see I am not alone (ref Customer Satisfaction Program [recall] 12B36, to which I never recieved via the mail) Thank you if you are still reading this review, I tend to vent everytime I think of this car and the engine I had to pay for myself due to defective engineering.

Bets vehicle I’ve owned. Great for families, and much more affordable than most SUV’s. Highly recommend!
This car is a pleasure to own and drive.5 years now snd no problems except maintenance. Tires brakes ect.
Gas mileage is on par with SUVs the same size Wonderful highway car Has a pickup truck equivalent cargo space A/C system works very well First and second row buckets seats are very comfortable Vehicle height is perfect for ease of exit and entry The multimedia and control touch screen is more than adequate in both size and functionality We have had NO mechanical or electronic system malfunctions Too bad Ford will no longer manufacture this car
If you haven't driven a Ford Flex ever, you owe it to yourself to try it. I've had probably a dozen cars over the years, ranging from a Triumph TR7 and Toyota Supra, to Acura Integra before getting married and moving into more family-type vehicles. After a Jeep Grand Cherokee, a Ford Explorer (my fave until now), and a couple minivans, this Flex has been the clear winner. So much so that I just bought another newer one. It rides like an '85 Caddy I used to have, but feels much sportier, completely belying its 2.5 ton weight. Even steering is impressive; you can flip a u-turn almost anywhere without having to back up in the middle of it. Fit and finish really impressive, an amazing Sony 12-speaker sound system, bluetooth, navigation and I even have a fridge as the 2nd row console. Amazing car. Get one if you can!
Of the dozens of vehicles I have owned in 40+ years, this one is the Best! I would not trade it, even though it is apparently worth more than I owe.
excellent pick up, roominess, style and functional
the strips on the windows are prone to popping off
love the ride, the beach wagon look, the pick up, the roominess, the third seat, all the extras, sun roof, view roofs, comfortable seats ...it's all good. also owned a 2012 Flex which i loved as well. so sad it was discontinued after 2019.
AWD 300 hp , tow capacity of 5000, seats seven comfortably, handles curves of mountain roads beautifully....GREAT BRAKES. This car hauls big loads, like a truck, but you feel like you are driving a nimble Volvo...not an SUV. very dependable, no problems good visability/comfort. about19 mpg doing 80mph on interstate WHY, OH WHY, DID FORD CANCEL PROUCTION?!
Comfortable, great gas mileage, safe, reliable
None!
This is the first vehicle that I love as much today as the day I bought it. It is SO comfortable to drive; especially long distances. Plenty of room for the whole family and to buy groceries. Good gas mileage. Extremely safe and reliable. Can't say enough good things about this vehicle.
