Built for serious work and play, the 2025 Ford Super Duty is a heavy-duty truck that boasts best-in-class power, towing, and payload. Pricing starts at $51,185.
If you need a Ford truck with more towing and payload capacity than the F-150, the next step up is the Super Duty. This heavy-duty line of trucks includes the F-250 and F-350, as well as the commercial-work-biased F-450, and has the muscle to do the toughest, most demanding work you would ask of your pickup. The 2025 Super Duty is capable of towing up to 40,000 pounds, a massive step up from the F-150’s 13,500 – which itself is best in class for 1/2-ton trucks. Suffice it to say that the F-Series, the best-selling line of trucks in America, is ready for whatever work you need to get done.
This generation of the Super Duty launched for the 2023 model year, with higher towing and payload capacity than the Chevy, GMC, and Ram rivals. There are multiple cab, bed, and wheelbase lengths and a choice of gas or diesel engines. As with the F-150, the Super Duty also uses tech to make work more convenient and easier, such as features that help when towing and hauling, plus embedded 5G technology. While the ride quality is not the same as that of the F-150, the Super Duty is comfortable enough to serve as the family chariot for weekend errands and vacations.
We’ve tested this entire generation of heavy-duty trucks, including the F-250.
The top-of-the-line Limited trim was discontinued. However, that is part of a minor trim level shuffle, as there’s now a new Platinum Plus package add-on for the Platinum trim. As part of the update, the Platinum trim now includes a Black Onyx cabin with Platinum Blue accents, body-color door handles, and a black grille and tailgate graphics. The Platinum Plus package, which requires the turbodiesel engine, adds a satin finish grille and other accents to the exterior, a Smoked Truffle interior, and a wide range of luxury features. This is now essentially the top trim level.
Two new paint colors, Avalanche and Ruby Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat, are available on XLT and higher trim levels. In addition, new Trailer Technology bundles include tire pressure monitoring for the trailer tires, a blind-spot warning that factors in the trailer, and auxiliary cameras.
The 2025 Ford F250 Super Duty Crew Cab has a starting sticker price of $51,185, with the range-topping F250 Super Duty Crew Cab Platinum kicking off at $79,960. But Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Pricing currently suggests paying $2,613 to $3,599 less than MSRP, depending on trim and equipment. These prices are updated weekly.

The best-selling combinations in the Super Duty line are the 4-wheel-drive Crew Cab Lariat, closely followed by the 4-wheel-drive Crew Cab XL.
While Super Duty pricing starts at $47,295, the Ram HD starts at $47,245, the Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD is priced from $46,395, and the GMC Sierra HD begins at $48,295.

Ford’s Super Duty lineup tends to hold an edge in resale value over its heavy-duty competitors. Keep in mind the more money you recoup when selling or trading in a vehicle means, the more you have to put down on your next one.
Heavy-duty trucks are much more civilized than they used to be. Both the F-250 and F-350 are surprisingly comfortable and easy to drive, and the F-250 is ever-so-slightly more comfortable. The F-450, designed for the most hard-core work duty, has the least compliant ride of the three.
As if having three cabs, three bed lengths, and five wheelbase lengths weren’t enough, there are also four engines to choose from. All of them are robust. When the base engine puts out 405 hp and 445 lb-ft of torque, you know these are very powerful engine choices. The next engine above the 6.8-liter gas engine is a 430-hp 7.3-liter gas engine with 485 lb-ft. Both gas engines are responsive and plenty powerful. However, if you need to tow a huge trailer or boat, you may want to consider the 6.7 turbodiesel, with 475 hp and 1,050 lb-ft, or the High Output version, with 500 hp and 1,200 lb-ft.
Whether carrying several thousand pounds of cargo in the bed or having a 40,000-pound trailer hooked up, the Super Duty feels solid and confident and never feels like it’s wanting for power. The 10-speed automatic transmission does a terrific job of managing power, whether towing on a grade or driving this Ford unladen. Steering and braking have just the right amount of response and predictability, and the Super Duty feels wonderfully civilized around town. While parking isn’t as easy as with an F-150, and the ride isn’t quite as pleasant, this is a minor trade-off for those who need extra work capability.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) does not require automakers to provide mpg estimates for trucks this size. Still, these big, powerful machines are obviously among the thirstiest vehicles on the road. Keep your expectations in the low teens.
The 2025 Super Duty offers room for three to six passengers, depending on the cab. The SuperCab has decent legroom in the second row, but for the most space – and 10 inches more legroom — look for the Crew Cab, where there is a generous 43.6 inches of legroom. In addition, as you move up the line of trim levels, interiors go from basic workhorse to opulent. Take, for example, the base XL. It has a cloth bench seat and black vinyl floors. Moving up through the five trim levels, the amount of standard convenience, tech, and luxury features increases until you reach the Platinum – and the Platinum Plus package. At the top of the line, passengers can enjoy comfortable leather seats with heat and ventilation. When it’s time for a break, the available Max Recline front seats can fold flat. A 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system is available.
If you want to use the Super Duty for work, the center console Work Surface makes the center storage a flat workstation where you can easily use a laptop or take care of paperwork. While an 8-inch touchscreen comes standard, higher trim levels come with a 12-inch horizontally mounted screen. The Super Duty has embedded 5G, which enables faster navigation, Wi-Fi (optional for up to 10 devices), and over-the-air software updates — even while the truck is on the road.
With a large, squared-off grille and side marker lights that resemble C-clamps, the Super Duty is imposing while still looking like a relative of the F-150. These trucks are big, but how big? The longest F-150 is still a couple of inches shorter than the shortest Super Duty; at 266.2 inches (over 22 feet), the longest Super Duty is 38 inches longer than the longest F-150. That makes knowing the dimensions of your garage extremely important.
The Regular Cab only comes with an 8-foot bed, but the F-450 can also add a dually setup to this combination. The SuperCab and Crew Cab models come with either the long bed or the 6-3/4-foot bed. All F-250 models are single rear-wheel layouts, and the F-350 adds the option of dual rear wheels. All F-450 trucks are duallys. Wheel and grille designs vary based on the trim level. In addition, Ford offers the Tremor Off-Road package on XLT and higher trim levels. It adds a lifted suspension, skidplates, 35-inch off-road tires in black 18-inch wheels, and a different front end.
Tailgate Down Rearview Camera With Rear Parking Sensors
This package makes it easier to back a gooseneck/fifth-wheel trailer into a campsite or up to a docking bay, thanks to this optional camera and sensor system that functions regardless of whether the tailgate is up or down. This option is a first for the class.
Pro Power Onboard
This optional 2-kilowatt electrical system with household-type outlets allows the Super Duty to power a lighting system, tools, or a tailgate party.
Trailer Navigation
When this optional system plots a route, it factors the trailer’s size and weight to avoid low bridges and tight turns if necessary.
Onboard Scales
Using either a smartphone app or the smart taillights, this option will let drivers know if their potential cargo is within acceptable weight limits.
Trailer Theft Alert
This feature will alert you via the FordPass app if someone tries to disconnect the trailer when the truck is locked.
Ford Upfit and Ford Pro
If you want to add a snowplow, crane, or backhoe to your Super Duty, Ford has an upfit program that will install this equipment and integrate the controls into the center screen with custom buttons. Ford Pro can add a custom package with vehicle management software, mobile services, and more.
There are four engine choices, all of them V8s. The base engine, a 6.8-liter gas V8, puts out 405 hp and 445 lb-ft of torque. The other gas engine is a 430-hp 7.3-liter unit with 485 lb-ft of torque. There are two 6.7-liter turbodiesel choices: the regular version, which develops 475 hp and 1,050 lb-ft of torque, and the High Output version, which makes 500 hp and a class-leading 1,200 lb-ft of torque. Every engine uses a 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is the default setup, and 4-wheel drive is available.
Payload and Towing
With the right F-Series Super Duty setup, the 6.8-liter engine provides the maximum payload capacity of 8,000 pounds. You can achieve that with the F-350 XL with rear-wheel drive, dual rear wheels, Regular Cab, and the Heavy Duty Payload package. This is the best payload capacity in the heavy-duty truck class.
For serious towing, the ideal engine is the 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 turbodiesel. With the gas engines, the maximum towing capacity is 22,500 pounds; that goes up to 40,000 pounds with the High Output turbodiesel. Maximum towing capacity is 23,000 pounds with the F-250, 38,000 pounds with the F-350, and a class-leading 40,000 pounds with the F-450 (Regular Cab, High Output turbodiesel, gooseneck adapter).
3-Year/60,000-Mile Warranty
The new-vehicle warranty on a 2025 Super Duty is three years or 36,000 miles, whichever happens first. Powertrains are covered for five years or 60,000 miles. This warranty stretches to 100,000 miles for diesel engines over the same period. These terms are typical for the HD truck class.
Safety Equipment
Trucks in this class aren’t usually subjected to the same crash tests as more mainstream vehicles. Yet safety is still addressed to a high degree in the Super Duty. On base models, we suggest spending the $730 to add the Driver Assist package, which adds forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and automatic high beams. Other active safety and driver assistance features available for the Super Duty lineup include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go and lane centering, a 360-degree camera system, and a blind-spot monitoring system that accounts for the whole length of any trailer that might be connected.
