What Owners are Saying About the 2005 Ford Explorer
"Very Sturdy and reliable"
"Got this car at about 208,000 miles and I am still going strong at 215,000. Make sure to pay attention to your ABS light. Brought mine in and i ended up needing a new master cylinder. Other than that I had to replace one wheel bearing. This car is very reliable when it comes to accidents as well. I had gotten into a pretty bad accident myself in this one and came out unscathed with only some cosmetic damage and a popped tire. The fact that my car is still pushing through at 215k miles truly shows how long this car can last. Keep up with maintenance and it will surely last a long time."
"BEST VEHICLE EVER"
"2002 w/145000 mi, purchased new: Still has original spark plugs, shocks, exhaust, ball joints; no wheel alignment, no rust, no accidents. Replaced wheel bearings, A/C condensor, rear springs, and 4X4 shift control module - only major repairs. Replaced brakes 2(or 3) times and rear rotors once and 7 yr old battery; 80000 mi on first tires...still going good on second set. Changing oil every 3000mi, religeously. 15mpg city/20-21mpg hwy. COST to DRIVE: $.237/mi BEST VEHICLE EVER"
"My mom gave it to me because it won't die"
"My Mom has had this 2002 since almost new. 1700 mile on it. She has literally driven it on nearly every road trip, off road trip she's been on for 14 years straight. She put almost all of the miles on it. It has had the rear differential whine since eons ago. It's never given any issues because she had the diff oils done every 50k. The thing runs like it's new. It's the quietest engine I have heard. No mechanical noises at all. It's so quiet you hear the individual injectors firing. The Exploder XLS is a great vehicle. I was given it 4 years ago, 275k on the dial. It only has had the rear differential pinion seal leak. Not a drop of oil is burnt or drips from the engine. The seats and dash look almost new. Carpet isn't that pretty, dirty. I has sat for a few of those years and developed a coolant leak somewhere, but very minor and I can not see it, but it drips from the water pump area but can't tell. It's a pinhole leak. I trust my life to this thing camping. I put some very nice mud terrain tires and use it for sleeping in on the road to far away locations. The seats fold flat and a full sized air mattress fits great. I sleep in it when traveling lite. It's due for oxygen sensors and that's it. Mobile 1 full synthetic oil since she bought it. I want to sell it but it's in such good shape that I hate to and the value is not worth it. I'd never find a vehicle that cheap with that kind of reliability. I swear I wouldn't hesitate to drive this anywhere in the world. I wish I could say that about all my Ford's. I have 4... F550 super duty, saleen mustang, focus st, this thing. You almost can't go wrong with these generation Explorers. It's a 4.0l v6 all wheel drive with selectable 4x4 high and low range. btw average MPG with new oxygen sensors are 22 to 26 hwy. 16 to 18 town."
