Positive Review
I am the second owner and bought it in 2010 at 105,000 miles. Since then, I have replaced a high output alternator and battery (Premium sound requires a better alternator). Some maintenance like oil changes are done at a regular basis. The engine was leaking oil somewhere so I cut down the frequent oil changes from every 3 mo/3000 mi to 5 mo/5000 mi. with the high mileage oil and filters. After that, the engine would leak less. It runs great in winter time than in summer. Everyone seems crawling on the road.
Critical Review
After almost 16 years of ownership and almost 114k miles, I have to say the six banger is the best engine I've ever seen. It's still reliable and still uses no oil. 4 wd is reliable, too. Styling and comfort are both good. Now on to the bad stuff. Overall quality and reliability are a problem. Early on I had to put new valve cover gaskets on 4 different times. Plastic interior parts (door handles and arm rest) were designed with failure in mind, and they did fail. Also had to replace the main engine seal at 90k miles and the rear springs at 60k miles. Neither of those should have happened. The tranny is the model's big problem. When matched with the underpowered 6cyl engine, the tranny is foced to run at excessive rpm's (especially going up hills), making it prone to failure. Mine failed three different times. At $2000 a whack, failed tranny's are darn expensive. Other items in the vehicle were above average in quality. Now we'll see whether or not a 2008 Trailblazer does any better

Truly wonderful to behold and love the history of this vehicle. My favorite Uncles mother. He got his impressive personality from her. I have a family tie for certain. The vehicle is from Utah and from salted roads. I have great plans for a full rotisserie rebuild. It only has 59k original miles on it. It’s very solid and strong with the 3.8 liter engine. Very roomy and comfortable for me.

This Explorer XLT is in pristine condition inside and out. 37k actual miles. 4 speed automatic with OD. This Truck needs nothing. For a 1993 you could never find one in better condition.
30 years old as of this post, our recently purchased 1994 Ford Explorer Xlt Bessie drives as smooth as our 2017 Jeep. With a little PAM nonstick spray the paint job is once again immaculate. The interior is also in near-perfect condition. She has great get-up-&-go, gas mileage, and doesn't make a lot of riggity annoying noises typical of most cars her age. Everything works as it should, except the heater and the blinker, which are probably due to wiring issues because of rats gnawing on them, as Bessie sat all alone for several years on a farm. We are all impressed, so much that rather than work truck status she has become a part of our family, we will keep her a while. 🛻
These are like a little tractor! They are comfortable for long trips on the highway and also really tough for any snowy or off-road adventures. The understeer is tolerable and actually very nice in tight spots. Forget the fairytales of these rolling over too easy! You have to TRY to get this thing to roll. Not that they won't, but I've seen Camaros and Mustangs roll over too... And don't blame Firestone tires... They are tires, not the vehicle they're on. Super agile and fun in the snow, I actually get bored in the snow because it sticks to the road so well it's no fun. Just boring safety.

after 27 years and over 200,000 miles it still runs great and has never had any major issues.
Small, drives great on and off road, tight turning
Heavy Dogs break the console arm rest.
I have driven my 1992 4x4 Sport all over the Western US and to Canada and Mexico. I use it for my everyday driver and for trips to the mountain to ski, the woods to go 4x4 drving off road, and up and down the drive-able beaches and sand dunes on the Oregon coast many times. All over Canyon lands and the Bad Lands, on and off road, and never a problem. 100% mechanically reliable and the only stranding issues were due to dead batteries and never any mechanical issues.
