"Love/hate relationship"

Let me say this 1st... I'm a perfectionist and a Engineer. I love technical details and details of all sorts. This is the 1st American car I've ever owned... My favorite cars are AUDIs and Merc Benz. Overall, the Expedition for us has satisfied what we need it for - a family towing vehicle. There are some things we love about the Expedition and some things we hate. Things we love - great for families and dogs! great performance and towing capacity for our Airstream 25FB. Very good comfort level and features. Not a bad ride suspension wise either but if you install the Bilstein 5100s, you'll have a super ride. The interior leather is not AUDI or Merc quality but it's pretty good for the price point which make this SUV a very good value. OK, now the things we hate - being stranded at the airport parking lot after coming back from Europe (2 week vacation). Ford has not designed this vehicle to sit in a parking lot for 2 weeks. The battery dies because all the things that pull power while the car is locked for that time frame. So we have to carry a jump kit with us or leave it at home on a trickle charger to keep that from happening. Additionally, Ford's "SMART" charging circuit/alternator design does not allow the battery to charge up more than about 50% of it's full capacity which also hurts the sitting issue. If you drive it each day - it will not be noticed. Go for a week or more and you might find yourself needing a jump.

"Overheating"

So, I bought 2019 expedition Max with heavy duty towing option. I live in Arizona and we have a 7500 lbs trailer. So, the 2019 Ford Expedition with ECOBOOST seemed like a great fit. We have 4 kids a 6 seaters is a minimum requirement for our tow vehicle. The Ford Expedition is great with the kids lots of room. The power was better than the 2013 Expedition, and I was excited. However, the transmission temperature and water temperature and as both reached over 240. I never had this with the 2013 Expedition. I cannot believe the cooling capacity on the 2019 is so bad. I saw that the heavy duty towing package included a bigger radiator, but it is not enough. I would like to give you a view to share with others considering the 4th generation Ford Expedition.

Terrible resale value

In 4 years it will be 20k... but dealership won't give 15... they have issues with battery dying after a day.

Sitting in service center for entire lifetime

Non-stop dealer visits! The dealership is always busy, keeping my brand-new car for weeks at a time! Everything was fine until the second oil change at the dealership. They insist on keeping the car for at least three days for an oil change—it’s their policy, and there’s nothing you can do about it if you own a brand new car which is under warranty. Right after the oil change, the rear window defroster stopped working—another two weeks at the dealership. As soon as that was fixed, the parking sensor failed—two more weeks at the dealership (at my expense, even though the car has never been in any kind of accident). Now the battery is dying, and I don’t even want to call the dealership—it’ll just mean a few more weeks without my car and another bill to pay. Completely disappointed! PS: independent mechanic said: it is Ford - they never been of a good quality

Perfect family car

Purchased a week ago and love the car so far. Max is the way to go if you have kids.. look at a standard and max side by side, the difference is minimal. My kids are comfy and have plenty of space

2023 Ford Expedition Stealth

10 out of 10. Simply fabulous car. Powerful engine, numerous convenience features, stable ride, and important safety features and alerts while driving; easy to back out of parking spaces, with surprising collision avoidance features and camera-aided, relative position displays. Favorite features: adaptive cruise control, killer sound system, and huge control panel with built-in owners manual. Great styling to boot.

Love this car

Drives beautifully, very safe, like new. Am not afraid to go on a long trip across country. Ford does indeed have a better idea.

Love it!

Outstanding SUV 30k miles in. No issues at all. Still drives and rides like the day I bought it. Love the Timberline HO engine.

Meets our needs
Pros

Comfortable, capable, versatile, nice features

Cons

Huge, Thirsty, Expensive, Tough value proposition

Overall it's a very nice vehicle with many features I was looking for. It's huge and horribly inefficient, but it hauls my whole family and a giant trailer. Pretty much the only thing out there that can do that. I can't say the value is there to begin with, and its depreciation is pretty drastic, but again, I knew what I was getting into.

Average at best

Nice looking interior and exterior can be deceiving. Interior quality of workmanship and materials is below average. There was 1 interior rattle when new and at 28,000 miles there are at least 3 major rattles that the dealership said they can’t or wouldn’t repair. Mechanically sound vehicle with very poor interior construction.
