Positive Review
I will start by saying that my wife refers to me as a "research geek". I really research and dig into things, especially for large purchases like a vehicle. In this case I compared the Expedition, QX56, Yukon, and Tahoe. All have similar options. I am a fan of the rear bench seat because I don't like losing a seating position with the bucket seats. The Expy by far has the most leg room in the third row. It drives really easy and smooth. The Ecoboost engine really surprised me. The one odd thing is how quiet it is. It doesn't seem right at first if you are used to a large V8 vehicle. Don't be fooled, it moves along really well. Plus the torque is realized at a much lower RPM than the Yukon's and Tahoe's which is where you can actually use it when towing. Hitting peak torque numbers up around 4000 rpm is basically worthless for towing. The Expy hits peak torque around 2100 rpm. That is pretty good for a gas engine. I recently towed a 23 foot wakeboard boat and it was great. Smooth and had plenty of power. The one drawback is the interior finishing material. It's done well, its just more plastic material than the fancier woodgrain stuff you will get in an XLT or Denali Yukon. But that being said, it's still nice and the overall the controls are laid out well. The other drawback is that there are no tie downs in the cargo, which is odd. No d-rings to attached a strap or bungee cord to. Also, with the windows up, air off, and radio off you pickup a slight whine from the turbo's, but nothing annoying or overbearing. For reference, I purchased a 2015 Expedition Limited with the upgrades for power moon roof, power steps, and 22" rims. It's basically a Platinum without the platinum badge and seat stitching.
Critical Review
I have owned this 2003 Expedition since it was new. We really like the roominess and comfort. It has good towing capacity. It is great on trips and handles very well for a large SUV. I haven't been able to enjoy this vehicle because of always anticipating the next mechanical failure. It has required numerous repairs and been a money pit even with extended warranties. Because of the numerous problems I purchased 2 extended warranties which helped tremendously with repair costs up to 130,000 miles. Complete A/C replaced 2 times, transmission replaced at 110,000 miles. A/C just went out a 3rd time at 135,000 miles. Repairs included: engine coils replaced several times, manifold gasket, power window motors, leak in A/C line in rear and rear fan replaced 2 times. Sun roof began leaking. Three separate estimates were about $1,700 to repair due to the track warping.

Great proformance, styling and comfort

Great fuel economy with 3.5L Ecobust Engine. Best vehicle ever for travelers. Exceptional comfort interior with a great Sony sound system.
Very dependable motor
Minor electrical issues
We purchased our 2012 Expedition XL brand new and have since put 260,000 miles on it without ANY major engine repairs other than a transmission repair (not replacement.) I will say that it has had a few electrical issues and we have had to replace the motors on two of the windows, the radio display no longer lights up, (but it works!) and we also replaced the motors on the retractable running boards (I hate those things) other than that it has been an incredibly dependable car. I have used it to commute 100 miles per day, and it kept me safe through ice, snow, rain and wind. I am not sure how many more miles I can expect it to run, but in the meantime I'll keep getting it serviced regularly.
No problem with anything. It has always been very dependable. Personal use only Good condition and runs well
Great ride, great reliability so far
Not terribly powerful or fuel efficient
Mileage will not be what you want, but the thing is a bus. Power is decent, the ride is excellent. Aside from the inevitable 5.4 3v timing job, it’s been totally trouble free. There are a couple spots on the aluminum trunk lid and hood that will eventually need addressing, but they’re fine for now and don’t spread quickly like rust.
Se maneja muy bien y tranquilo
Tiene la luz de la bolsa de aire prendida
La camioneta esta en muy buenas condiciones trabaja muy bien motor y transmisión en muy buenas condiciones la vendo porque quiero comprar un carro más pequeño
Doesn’t use oil - tires ok -
It’s old - one window doesn’t work
Comfortable reliable - It has great hauling space. It was and is a quality auto. It gets 18 miles per gallon.
Goes anywhere, great to drive in any environment.
Too many "drivers-nanny's"
Roomy, comfortable, quiet, extremely reliable and I feel safe in any environment. This is without doubt one of the best auto's I've ever owned, (and I've owned a lot of vehicles) and which I'd recommend to everyone. At first I wasn't sure I'd like a 6 cyl in a 6k lb vehicle but I the Eco-boost twin-cam, twin-turbo is more than sufficient to move this giant. The retracting running boards make it look much smaller than it actually is. 45k miles and still rattle free.
fun to drive
gas hog
took this car on trips to the mountains for fishing. I love this car and even slept in at overnigt sometimes
