Positive Review
I was very surprised by the pick up and power this 3.0 6 cylinder has. Very smooth shifting 6 speed automatic transmission. Cabin is very roomy despite it's outward appearance. Plenty of leg room front and rear. Audio system sounds superb. SYNC, USB connection for iPod and bluetooth for phone work great with buttons on the steering wheel. Voice command is very handy. Easy to maneuver and park. Automatic headlights is a plus, as is the keyless entry and driver's door keypad (all cars should have this feature!) I like the computer information on MPG and oil change info. I got 24 MPG on combination highway/city rush hour traffic. Almost 10 more MPG than my previous car, a 1999 Explorer. On the negative side, having to remove the rear passenger headrests to fold the back completely flat seems to be an after thought.
Critical Review
We have had our 2011 Ford Escape for a little over 8 months. The air conditioning stopped working and we took it to the dealer. They told us road debris must have hit the condensor and caused two small indentations causing the freon to leak out. There were no holes just two small indentations. We were told it would cost us $941.00 to repair - warrenty would not cover. We told them it was a design flaw as the holes in front bumper have nothing in front such as a screening to protect the condensor. I wrote to customer service and the CEO of the company, Alan Mulally - of course he is too busy to respond. Customer Service sent a letter saying they looked into the matter (which they did not) and it will not be covered by warranty. Since then we immediately cancelled our extended warranty as we figured if they will not cover things now what makes us think they will cover anything later. With that in mind it has cost Ford more than if they put it under warranty. I now understand why Ford did not need a loan from the government - they only sell they do not maintain. We have owned Fords since 1974 - not any more.

I had my 2011 escape4x4 four years no problems. As far as work needed to correct issues it had it needed front pads and rotors struts and swaybar endlinks blower motor resistor and minor rust repair. It was totaled in an accident. The work needed was done by me
Still looks good,

The hybrid is the worse vehicle ever made. No way to control when it changes from regular to hybrid mode. You never know what is wrong with the vehicle because it's so iffy. It's like it has a mind of its own.
good performance, 4x4, reliable, rugged styling
steering is mushy, interior has a lot of plastic
Inherited this car from a family member when I was in high school ten years ago with 20,000 miles on it. I just parked it for the last time with 250,000 miles on it. It was a reliable car with a comfy interior, good ride height, and surprising performance. I only started having issues with it after 220,000 miles on it when it started leaking oil and had some brake problems. Until that point the car was a dream. The car isn't worth me fixing ow since I have a newer vehicle now but i'm happy that this car served me well for so long!
Looks good sitting in driveway
Won’t start, changed starters 4 times, alternator
Bought 2009 used Ford escape and it’s been in the shop 4 times for the same problem!! Starter went out 4 times within 4 weeks of purchasing this car! Also, after new battery installed, it ran 1 day, then wouldn’t start on day 2!!! Had to have it towed all 4 times!! Something is draining new battery overnight! Checking ALL fuses and several are way over on amps!! This apparently is a common problem on this car!! DON’T BUY FORD ESCAPE!!
Everything
Rust
This would be a five star plus if not for the rust. We have driven our Escape almost 80,000 miles with absolutely no mechanical problems. We replaced the battery and the tires that's all. However, the rust around the back wheel wells is terrible, now it is along back lift gate edge. The fender is literally falling off. Otherwise a great car.
