Positive Review
Almost 3 months of ownership an 1500 miles driven an my impression of the new Ford EcoSport is so far very positive. Cocerns of Fit & Finish an general Quality Control from a vehicle built in India is not an issue whatsoever..Quality materials, comfort an Value are all in place. The Value is in the Base S Trim Model for 21K. Unless you need a Power Sunroof, Push Button Ignition an SYNC 3, this is the way to go. The EcoSport is (not) a 27K or 28K Vehicle no matter how many bells an Whistles you choose to add. It looks like a Baby Escape with as much if not more ground clearance. Interior layout an quality an comfort of seating an materials used is excellent for a Base Trim Vehicle. I actually prefer the EcoSport over my other Vehicle a 2017 Honda HR-V in LX Trim! 3 gripes though. NO Emergency Spare Tire (Donut) just a Tire Inflator Kit (worthless) or order the Ugly Full Size Spare mounted on the Rear Hinged Hatch Door. No CD Player in any Audio System an Sirius Satellite Module not available in Base S Trim. Even a 11K Hyundai Accent or Kia Rio includes the Sirius/XM feature! Fuel Economy also is a bit disappointing for a Vehicle with a 3 cyl engine an only 1 ltr. displacement. Rear Seat Legroom is a bit challenging too. Small storage area behind rear seats is barely adequate unless one or both of the Rear Seat are folded down. All in all, for a 19K New CUV, a like it!
Critical Review
PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS CAR, IT'S A LITERAL DEATH TRAP!! hese cars may look cute and "sporty" but stay far away, even if you think it's a good deal! We bought ours on Halloween of 2022 with 13k miles on it. Now, here we are, less than a year later and the engine fails! Regular maintenance kept. Your wetbelt will disintegrate well before your payments are done being made. Your wetbelt is inside your motor and will give you zero warning before it literally offs itself. After the belt degrades, your gears will grind together, throwing metal shavings throughout your entire engine, completely ruining it. The only warning you get is a "Low Oil Pressure" light almost immediately before your dash starts setting off alarms, your engine begins knocking horribly, and your engine seizes up. Ford is fully aware of this failure and refuse to act on it. They currently have a class action lawsuit against them, filed June of this year. Countless people have sustained injuries because of this catastrophic engine. It has locked up on people going 70 mph on the highway, stiffening up their brakes, making it nearly impossible to stop or control the vehicle. This is not the first time this has happened either. This is a huge news story on BBC right now. If you still don't believe how important this is, take the word of literally thousands of other people. Check out the FB group called Ford EcoBoost Nightmare, read their stories. Please save yourself the heartache, stress, and potential injury/death because Ford continues to send out motors with manufacturer defects. They've had so many lawsuits over this, with several different types of motors. I promise you that cute little car isn't worth it! And Ford is about as helpful as a wetbelt napkin. I grew up in Ford vehicles, so they've always been special to me. But after this? Never again! DO NOT BUY, IT'S NOT WORTH IT!

I got an ‘instant cash offer’ through Kelly Blue Book several days ago for my 93 yr old father’s 2021 Ford Ecosport. When he took the car to the local Ford dealer, Maguire Ford in Hershey PA, they told him they didn’t need to honor the KBB instant offer. Instead of the $15,480 offer promised by KBB they said the best they could do was $13,000. This is a joke. They justified their position on having to pay to detail the car and pay sales commission once they sold the car. The car is in like new condition with 16,000 miles. I think they saw a steal coming and thought they could take advantage of a 93 yr old. Pretty sure that would never have happened had I showed up under the same circumstances.
Breaks down constantly and has cost me thousands to repair at only 71k miles. Great little car, just if only it actually operated as it should.
Roomy, gas saver, just right for a single person or small family
Slow to start
Still driving this car after 6 years, and I would love to drive this car in the next 4 years. Good performance for city driving as well as driving to higher areas...
If you have the 2L engine it is zippy
Too expensive for outcomes one would need as a family buyer
Bought 2 years ago. Operates well. Insufficient supply of certified repair locations and no spare tire. Vehicle is deceptively portrayed as spacious for a compact suv, but is realistically too small for four passengers and does not suitably hold a rear seat placed car seat given common sizes today. Side swinging rear door is more complications because the rear sensors and backup camera seems all entangled in the door wiring harness wearing out easily. Regardless intelligent 4-wheel drive the lack of remote start with the ford app as an option allows the dealer to eventually hold you hostage for a feature, and is over priced for what you receive. In retrospect I should have gotten something an explorer size of a competing brand, not sure I can recommend a ford with this gamification of the sale I got. One car accident and this car is totaled by insurance so you better have gap coverage if you carry a debt.
I've had this car for over a year now and I've had so much trouble with this car, the car starts but there's no electrical. Happens all the time, I've taken it in to so many places and there have no idea how or what to fix. The first time this has happened to me I had to get it towed to a Ford dealership, they had no idea how what was causing the issues so the unhooked my battery replaced it, put it back together and that was it.
Comfortable
Horrible engine
I purchased my 2018 EcoSport in 2020 from a popular used car dealership. In 2021 I had to have my engine replaced (oil pump belt broke). In 2023 I had to have my fuel system replaced. In 2024, my engine quit on me again (this time piston #2 got stuck open and coolant leaked into my engine) and I have been fighting with Ford customer service nonstop for weeks. There is currently (as of June 2024) an open recall on this engine and they are refusing to do any service because my engine did not stop due to what the open recall is currently for. Hard to feel like a member of the Ford family when they refuse to do anything at all. I've heard the 2021 model and up are much better quality with much better engines.
It is a suv
Poor Economy, poor reliability.
I brought a 2020 Ecosport with 93500 miles. The car mostly functions well but engine light occurs after one week. I asked two mechanics they told me they don’t know what one of the error codes is! I was shocked and sold it without hesitate. It doesn’t worth such a price on CARFAX, you have better choice.
I've been to the Ford dealership several times and no one seems to know what's wrong with it. It tugs and feels like it is constantly shifting.
