Positive Review

"Best car ever made. The Legend."

As every police force, taxi company, limo service, and military buyer knows, this is THE car. From its inception in 1979 to the final year, it is one of the most-improved and perfected designs in automotive history. Solid body on frame construction. Rear wheel drive. 50/50 weight distribution. Unbreakable drive train. When one considers that New York taxi companies would buy the police version of these cars from departments that considered them worn out, and then proceed to put another 400,000 miles on them, one can appreciate just how well-built these cars truly are. I bought mine 4 years ago with high mileage, and after getting it on the road, it has cost me $0 in repairs. I have never owned a car that has not cost me on average about $800 or more a year to keep it in good order. This Crown has cost...$0. That to me is simply unbelievable. The Crown was so good, that the aforementioned agencies shopping around to find a replacement car found....nothing. There is no replacement for the Crown Vic. So, everyone is using SUVs and trucks instead. The new cars are all too light duty, small, and expensive to fix. That includes the tauruses and chargers out there. With the Crown, you unbolted a body panel, and put another one on. With these lighter cars, a pit maneuver can bend the unibody.

Critical Review

"A rather overrated vehicle"

I had owned a number of used Mopar and Ford police vehicles, and decided to buy a new CV in 2004. The purchase price was fine, and the car broke down on me over the 8 years I owned it, but it did not hold up. 2 weeks after I bought it, the right rear shock blew out. It would later require 3 more replacements. The fuel pump went out at 15000 miles. The power steering column required constant lube near the rag joint. The interior of the car was just plain cheap. I replaced the split bench seats with fresh CVPI seats, as the springs, cushion and covers wore out around 60000. By the time I traded the car in with 104000 miles, and even with rigid maintenance, the transmission was growling and slipping, the rear axle was howling, and the fuel economy was 16 on the highway, at best. Was glad to get rid of it and into a Charger. Find it amusing Ford replaced the CVPI in 2012, with the Taurus and Exploder, neither of which handle or have any resale value.

Owned since new , 25 years!

Has a few problems but once they are fixed , the first time you shouldn't have any more issues. If you are buying second had CV most issues will have been resolved before you get it. Though I did have to replace the plastic manifold twice in 25 years. My car has been hit three times and this car can take a hit and still be reliable . Very unusual these days. With unibody construction (vs frame) hit once and trash! Built on a Lincoln town car frame. Some of the issue include bend door operator, ball joints and bushing, fuel pump, plastic intake manifold, radiator, alternators, automatic door lock and truck door actuator. Head lights. I drive only about 10k an year any only have 143k in 25yrs

Great to own for six years!
Pros

Cheap maintenance, reliable, lots of room

Cons

Handles like a boat, V8 engine is thirsty for gas

I bought this car in 2017 for $2700. It gave me the independence I needed and took me everywhere I needed to go. Even when the engine started to make noises (I didn't keep up with scheduled maintenance), it never failed to start and go!

2002 P71

I recently purchased a 2002 crown vic interceptor. Low miles mint condition! It used to be a detective's car out of Ocala FL. SOLID! This car rides like a dream. I call it my poor man's Lincoln because it feels like one. Its pretty powerful for such a big car too. I had a couple 4.6 engines in my life. 100! That's one of the main reasons I bought it. The 4.6 is an unbelievably reliable and Bulletproof motor! The Transmissions are known to be not that great. I'm very familiar with the usuall powertrain found in lots of cars. The 4R70W transmission will last forever if your not really heavy on accelerating from stops. Love em!

An absolutely amazing car
Pros

Look and feel, Reliable, Space and Comfortable.

Cons

intake manifold, possible bad MPG

Looking for something comfortable, spacious, and has some power? Look no further than the Crown Victoria, its reliable, its got some new car features like keyless entry, if you have an LX like me you get EATC, and you could get the car with steering wheel controls for cruise control, radio and EATC (Climate controls)! These things are built to last as long as you take care of them. The car if ever needed for repairs is very simple, the only major things to look for is that the Intake Manifold may crack, the transmission may fail due to the front pump failing, when buying a CVPI you have to keep a sharp eye out for the common things when buying a PI. Its overall a amazing car with a lot of good features.

Greatness at a low price
Pros

Strong reliable V8; adjustable for anyone to drive

Cons

MPGs, RWD, some were driven hard as cop cars

First thing is first, you have to consider that these cars are older vehicles that were produced at a relatively low cost at extremely high production. With thay being said this car has been the best I've ever owned. I paid only 2500 for mine 2 years ago and have put over 50k on it. It has not left me stranded and until just the other day has had no major repairs to do, all the repairs so far have been simple and easy to do myself. It's not longer the biggest or fastest dog on the road anymore but it's still so much fun to drive and has plenty of power. My biggest complaint is the gas mileage, I get around 12 mpg so it hurts. Overall considering all the factors this car has been an amazingly reliable and fun car.

Safe, Dependable, Easy to work on
Pros

Safe, comfortable, easy to work on, dependable,

Cons

Gas mileage

Considered a mechanics dream car to work in, it’s body on frame design helps this car to be the ultimate cruiser. Looking for space? Look no further, this car has it ALL. Can be gas hoggy yes, but does well at highway speeds. It’s a dream car for anyone who is looking for something simple, big, spacious, comfortable, reliable, dependable and easy to fix!

Fun car
Pros

Cheap to maintain, decent on gas.

Cons

It's a boat, rust easy in fenders.

Expect to eventually replace the alternator, the starter, the front fenders from rust, and the heater coils, but other than that its a fun car.
