Positive Review
Recently traded in my 13.7 mpg Jeep for the C-Max and couldn't be happier. Not even worn in and still averaging around 43 mpg to work and back. Mpg's do drop in the morning when it is cool out. Gas engine works harder for the heater and to warm up the engine. I am heavy footed, but easily can keep it in the electric mode while crusing. Trip computer very helpful and keeps you in the right zone for efficent driving. Shop around and you can score a deal. purchased a SE with 202a package for under $23,300. Can't beat the price for the quality and gas savings. For a small car, it feels much larger while driving. This car has the power you need when you need it. Test drove a Prius prior to purchasing and almost gave up on Hybrids due to the wimpiness shown by the prius. Glad I didn't as this car has everything I need from daily commuter to weekend fun. Looking to drive and save $$ for long time.
Critical Review
I have had this car for about a year and a half. The things that caused me to buy this car were the stated gas milage as well as the comfort. It is comfortable to drive and has enough storage space. First off, the milage (proposed 47 MPG) has been on average 37mpg. The comfort is still there though, so I have that going for me. Unfortunately it has proven to be incredibly unreliable. So far I have taken it into the shop more times than I took my previous car in, which I had for eight years. First there were problems that caused it to not respond for about 10 seconds when you tried to reverse the car. After that, the MyFord Sync system stopped responding. After taking it in twice for that, I have given up and deal with the fact that I can't plug in anything to the USB port, and that the car will randomly interrupt whatever I am doing to say it can't play a device (when there isn't a device plugged in.) There were many recalls (I think there have been 5?) that I have had to take the car in to have something vital replaced. Most recently, I awoke one morning getting ready to go to work and found my car wouldn't start. Nothing was left on, it wasn't out in the freezing cold, and I had driven normally the previous day. In my opinion, a car that won't start regularly isn't worth much of anything. If you can't rely on your car to get you to work in the morning, there is no sense in having it to decorate your lot. I have many times started the car (or not, in this instance) to find a new problem that has no cause. I fear that more problems will continue to arise.

Gas mileage, storage capacity, comfort, headroom... to many to list!
It's not all-wheel drive... but that would be too much to ask.
I bought my 2015 Ford C-Max in July 2024 with about 123,000 miles on it. It's now April 2025, and I've had genuinely zero issues with this car. So far, I've driven it across the country and it's survived a Minnesota winter (while being garage kept). Despite its high mileage, I still get amazing gas milage and rarely get worse than 30 mpg average on trips around the city. If I'm doing a short trip with light traffic, I'll regularly get over 40 mpg. On top of all this, it has a great storage capacity and I can easily fit my road bike in the back without having to take it apart. I plan to keep this car for many years to come, with my only genuine complaint being that it struggles when there is a ton of snow and ice out... but that's to be expected for a heavy front wheel drive hybrid.
MPG started depleting after a couple years of ownership, which this vehicle happens to be notorious for. But overall, gets me where I need to go for an affordable price; can't complain too much! Highly recommend the hybrid over the energi trim because the battery in the energy takes up a majority of your cargo space.
Great car with adequate room for a larger individual. Handles well. Would certainly purchase another.
Efficiency style
I have owned this car for 2.5 years and it has been great. Average 47 mpg efficiency. No problems. Now 128400 miles going strong! Fun to drive, looks good, plenty of space and easy to park.
I bought mine used in May and have only nice things to report. Gas mileage averages 40 mpg and does so with comfort and a quality interior. Ford strived for quality with the C-MAX and it shows.
i just bought a c-max ford hybrid electric or gas 2016 I went to go to the store and the engine light came on i put it in reverse and it was going forward finally i got it so went to the store got in and it happened again This time the wheel seized finally it got going i was pulling into my parking spot and the line went sideways and scraped the car beside me
Great MPG! Great visibility, very roomy inside.
Turning radius.
Consistently over 41 MPG's, city & highway mixed. Low maintenance car, super dependable and lots of interior room. Fold down rear seats, power liftgate is very hand, Sony stereo system with navigation, back up camera, heated seats and easy to drive and see out of. One of the best cars I've ever owned. Now I need something bigger, SUV, truck type. I'm going to miss this car. Hopefully it finds a happy home. Has 142K miles, I think it will go many, many more!
I think the Ford C-Max is underrated. I have just recently been getting 48-50mpg. It handles really well, and I thoroughly enjoy it.
