2007 Dodge Ram 3500 Regular Cab Review

KBB Editors

By KBB Editors

Updated December 23, 2019

Our editors drive and evaluate hundreds of new cars every single year, turning thousands of miles and countless hours behind the wheel into helpful reviews, ratings, and comparisons. They also have lives outside of work, or so they think. You’d be surprised what you can learn by hauling a dirt bike, hunting for a wayward sippy cup, or just packing the trunk full of groceries.

Pros

Want a pickup that’s loaded with personality? The Rams are as big, bold and in-your-face as the people who like driving them. With a standard 345-horsepower HEMI V8, the Ram 2500 is one of the most powerful pickups in its class. When equipped with the Cummins Turbo Diesel, the Ram can tow up to 16,300 pounds.

Cons

The Ram is a big truck designed for heavy-duty work. If you like the idea of a big truck, but commute through the suburbs on a daily basis, you may want to try something a bit smaller, such as the V8-powered Dakota.

What's New?

For 2007, a new 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel and six-speed automatic transmission make their debut. The Cummins Turbo Diesel is cleaner and quieter than the previous engine, and provides a whopping 650 pound-feet of torque.

When it comes to heavy hauling, the domestic pickup fleet still has a lock on torque and towing ability, not to mention out-and-out ruggedness. If you’re looking for a big truck with abilities equal to its imposing good looks, the Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 are just the ticket. For 2007, Dodge’s big Ram continues with its signature big-rig front, gains more interior room with the addition of the Mega Cab model and adds power with the availability of the new Cummins Turbo Diesel engine. Of course, if diesel isn’t your thing, the standard HEMI engine delivers more than enough power, and bragging rights, for most customers.

2007 Dodge Ram 3500 Regular Cab Pricing

2007 Dodge Ram 3500 Regular Cab pricing starts at $14,294 for the Ram 3500 Regular Cab ST Pickup 2D 8 ft, which had a starting MSRP of $29,425 when new. The range-topping 2007 Ram 3500 Regular Cab SLT Pickup 2D 8 ft starts at $14,537 today, originally priced from $30,570.

Driving the Dodge Ram 3500 Regular Cab

With improved ride and handling qualities and more sedan-like interiors, today’s three-quarter and full-ton pickup trucks are more livable than ever. Our Dodge Ram 3500 Mega Cab Laramie test vehicle – well equipped with a big Cummins Turbo Diesel engine, six-speed automatic transmission and optional dual rear wheels – was no exception.

The mini-monster’s steering, brake and suspension systems combine to deliver a feeling of control that’s reassuring in a vehicle this size. While its extreme load capacities require a sacrifice in ride quality that’s most apparent on the highway – a condition amplified in our dually tester – even the biggest Ram pickup is comfortable enough for longer drives to the worksite.

Interior Comfort

The Ram’s interior is clean and highly functional. The lines on the dash and door panels are straight and crisp, and the plastics used in their construction feel sturdy without appearing cheap. Seat comfort is excellent, as is interior storage. Unfortunately, the Quad Cab model features a rear bench seat that feels a bit upright and does not offer as much legroom as its competitors from Ford, Chevy and Nissan. Those seeking a big back seat need only look to the Mega Cab model.

Exterior Styling

The aggressively-designed Ram exterior conveys a brutish, muscular appearance backed up by 17-inch wheels, towering ground clearance and a grille so big it needs its own ZIP Code. In dual-wheel form, the Ram 3500 almost looks like an 18-wheeler.

Favorite Features

Folding Armrest/Storage Unit
A wide folding armrest/storage unit is big enough to hold a laptop and comes complete with a 12-volt outlet.

New Interior
The Ram’s new interior is every bit as plush as the new Ford F150, but is attached to a much more powerful platform.

Standard Features

Both the Ram 2500 and 3500 ST versions come with a 5.7-liter V8, six-speed manual transmission, air conditioning, AM/FM stereo with CD, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes (ABS), 17-inch wheels, rear-bumper with step, keyless entry, vinyl 40/20/40 split bench seat and a tilt steering wheel.

Factory Options

Depending on trim, the options list is huge. The Ram can be ordered in 2500 or 3500 models with Regular, Quad or Mega Cabs, two- or four-wheel drive, two automatic transmissions (a four- and six-speed) and a choice of gasoline V8 or Cummins Turbo Diesel engines. Along the way, you can add leather seats, a GPS navigation radio, Infinity sound system, off-road package, trailer package, chrome wheels, power-adjustable pedals, limited-slip differential, power folding mirrors, fog lights, front side-impact airbags and a 34-gallon fuel tank.
