Positive Review

"Comfortable, reliable, practical and versitle"

This van has 220,000 miles on it and still runs and looks like new. It has a lot more usable interior space than any SUV the same size and can be used for anything from a seven passenger family vehicle to a two seat camper or hauler of furniture, building supplies or whatever (with the back seats removed) and everything in between.

Critical Review

"Long time Dodge owner"

I have owned a previous model of this van (1997) and it was reliable and fared very well with the daily family life. It was a no muss-no fuss workhorse. I opened a daycare and decided I owed it to myself to own a newer model. The 2008 model, I paid $32k for all the "bells and whistles" and it has been a constant drain on my finances. The warranty requires a service every mark of certain mileage that costs about as much as my mortgage. The brake system (not covered by the warranty) has been redone twice and the tires are of a "special size" and costs more than your average set of tires by about $200. There has been 12 recalls on electronic and motor repairs that I have to drive and wait to have repaired. Now I look at the retail value of the van today and it's only worth a fraction of what I paid! I will never be a sucker for this business again. If you are looking into buying new, my advice is to say NO. If you buy this used, beware that this van is full of little costly problems. For Dodge, newer is not always better.

Junk!!
Pros

Cute van

Cons

Weak engine, poorly built

Bought a low mileage caravan with the 4cyl engine. At 90,000 miles it literallly began pouring oil when running. "End play in the crankshaft can cause the seal to push out" allowing oil to freely run out of the engine. Will literally drain your engine in 5 minutes minutes time. Had seal replaced and shop said the above quote from Chrysler was the issue. A design flaw in the engine. No recall. Deal pushed out in another 5,000 miles, Chrysler recommended fix was to replace the engine. Instead I sold it for almost nothing. Other known issues with these model years- rear hatch motors, oxidation of hood, windows come off track.

Runs forever
Pros

Huge cargo,passenger serata 8

Cons

None

Just a fantastic minivan. The Dodge Caravan sport model is really a wonderful surprise. Seats seven passengers plus the driver makes it 8 comfortably with room for luggage. Seats removable vents all over the place, cup holders and entryways make it easy for elderly people or heavy people to get in and out with no problem. 6 cylinder engine makes it peppy enough to get on and off the highway. Visibility is fantastic with huge Windows all around. Stereo system and many other different functions which I didn't even bother to learn how to program the doors automatically because it just I just didn't need it. If you could find one in good condition you consider yourself very lucky. Someone stole mine and I doubt that I will ever be able to find one just like it again. It breaks my heart because it was my mother's vehicle. I purchased it from her when she got too old to drive it but sentimental value aside it was a tank that was very dependable. Regular maintenance should get $250,000 Mi on this vehicle and I wish you the best of luck
