Volkswagen Certified
Volkswagen has one of the more opaque certified pre-owned programs. Some details remain hazy; others are obscured. The company lumps its Limited warranty and Powertrain warranties together and offers different warranty lengths for various vehicle ages and types. Nowhere on their website nor in their brochure do they fully define the qualifications for certified pre-owned. We’re left to assume that if a vehicle passes VW’s 100-plus-point inspection and is of the appropriate age, it qualifies.
As of Jan. 3, 2024, the company has three warranty terms. 2018 and 2019 vehicles (five and six model years old) get one year or 12,000 miles (whichever comes first). Model year 2020 vehicles qualify for a 2-year/24,000-mile warranty upon purchase or when the applicable new-car warranty expires (whichever happens later). 2018 and newer electric VW models get a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty (whichever comes first). The CPO sale includes 24/7 roadside assistance (provided by a third party) and trip interruption coverage for two years from purchase. Trip interruption applies for a mechanical breakdown over 100 miles from home and is limited to $500 per incident. Any necessary repairs under warranty incur a $50 deductible per service. The warranty is transferable for 2020 and newer vehicles; it is not for older CPO vehicles.
