KBB Review Highlights

Rising to the top of a growing class dominated by legacy giants and sporty contenders like the Cadillac XT4 and Audi Q5, the Lincoln Corsair proves that beautiful things can come in compact packages. The 2021 Lincoln Corsair looks elevated and elegant. The petite powerhouse shares a platform with its Ford cousin, the Escape, and brings a new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model, initially slated for 2020, to complete the 3-model lineup.

Carrying over the winning refined and responsive powertrain options from last year, Corsair models use a turbocharged 250-horsepower 2.0-liter or 295-horsepower 2.3-liter 4-cylinder engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission or a 266-horsepower plug-in hybrid powertrain with a 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle gas-powered engine with a 14-kW lithium-ion battery and two electric motors powering the back wheels. It gains an all-electric range of around 28 miles with a 78-MPGe rating and a 33-mpg combined rating. The pure gas-powered models get 22 mpg city/29 mpg highway/25 mpg combined with the 2.0-liter and FWD, 21/29/24 mpg for the 2.0-liter and AWD, and 21/28/25 for the 2.3-liter and AWD.

2021 Lincoln Corsair front cabin.

Excelling at the quiet luxury that Lincoln is known for, the Corsair delivers charm and abundance as a love language. Space is abundant for a 5-seater. The dash is wide and anchored with a digital instrument panel and an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen. The cabin is quiet, insulated from engine noise, and finely finished. Seating is comfortable, with a sliding rear seat allowing easy access and additional leg room or cargo space. Thoughtful details are visible throughout the cabin, in both the Standard and Reserve trims, from the angle of the control panel and hand feel of the leather to the generous yet discreet storage wells. Lincoln made the Corsair for luxurious living.

Abundant driver assistance and convenience features, like USB charging ports, a power liftgate, and push-button start, come standard. Notable features like Phone as Key technology and Co-Pilot 360, which brings automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitor with cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beam headlights, are standard, even at the base Standard trim.

Two new packages also arrive for 2021. The glam Monochromatic Package adds body-color badging, bumpers, grille, and rocker panels. The new Sport Package adds a larger engine, polished 20-inch alloy wheels, a sassy black mesh grille, and illuminated plates within the door.
