Toyota Camry
What’s for sale near me?
Above Average: Strong resale and reliability, roomy interior, good safety ratings, more option choices for each trim level, hybrid model
Below Average: Not the much fun to drive, drab interior colors, sedate styling
Consensus: Every bit the Accord’s equal, the deciding factor to buy will most likely be a subjective one.
The Honda Accord and Toyota Camry sedans have been longtime rivals since they first came into existence nearly four decades ago. The two have battled neck and neck, offering nearly identical features, engine options and reliability ratings. The Accord line does include a coupe version, as well as offers a manual transmission on more models, but the Camry has an impressive hybrid in its corner. Both cars offer excellent crash test scores, and on later model years, a full suite of accident avoidance and driver assists. Until just recently, the Accord featured a single piece folding rear seat whereas the Camry has always had a 60/40 setup, allowing you to carry both passengers and extended cargo. Outside of some styling, interior materials and infotainment setups, there isn’t much more to distinguish these two giants, meaning you really can’t go wrong either way.
Honda Accord Advantages
Manual transmission option, available as a sedan or coupe, sporty ride and handling
Toyota Camry Advantages
Intuitive infotainment, hybrid model, generous rear seat headroom, 60/40 split folding rear seat, wireless cell phone charging available on 2015 and newer models
Similarities
The Accord and Camry offer similar styling, interior room, horsepower, fuel economy, resale values and reliability scores. Honda did make a plug-in hybrid Accord for a brief time, but it was only available in a limited market.
Final Recommendation
A nearly impossible choice, we think either car is a winning proposition. If you’re looking for something a bit sportier, an Accord coupe with the V6 and manual will do the trick. Those seeking a greener footprint will like the Camry Hybrid, although you’ll lose some trunks space to the battery pack.
OK, so what’s next?
I’m ready for one of these cars, and I’d like to trade in my current car while I’m at it.
