The 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV is an electric 5-seat compact SUV that delivers 319 miles of range in front-wheel-drive format. As with the gas-powered Equinox, all-wheel drive is optional.
While the two vehicles share a name, the Equinox EV sits on a totally different chassis. This new Chevy EV is more than seven inches longer and about three inches wider than the regular Equinox. It also rides on a longer wheelbase, helping designers give this new EV a sportier, more swept-back appearance. Beneath the sheet metal is GM’s Ultium EV architecture, which is used in the Cadillac Lyriq, GMC Hummer EV, Honda Prologue, and the Chevrolet Silverado EV.
When it arrives in early 2024, the Equinox EV will be offered a choice of two battery packs. The larger of the two comes standard in models equipped with AWD. Horsepower ranges from 213 to 288, and DC fast charging is standard across the lineup.
Let’s take a look inside the upcoming 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV.
Passenger Room and Comfort
Because it’s significantly larger than the standard Equinox, the 2024 Chevy Equinox EV is expected to provide greater stretch-out space, front and rear. For the moment, though, Chevrolet hasn’t released exact interior specifications and measurements ahead of the Equinox EV’s expected arrival in early 2024.
The base 1LT Equinox EV comes with manually adjustable front seats, single-zone climate control, and 19-inch alloy wheels. We expect most buyers will opt for the 2LT model, which has a wider range of comfort touches.
These include a power-adjustable driver seat, heated front seats and heated steering wheel, a power liftgate, and heated outside mirrors. It also offers Equinox EV buyers the option to brighten the black interior with blue accents or light gray upholstery (the latter dubbed “Sky Cool Gray” by Chevy).
Available features on the upper trims of the 2024 Equinox EV include a panoramic sunroof, a Bose audio system, heated and ventilated front seats, heated outboard rear seats, dual-zone climate control, multi-color ambient cabin lighting, and heating elements for the windshield wipers.
Features and Tech
Chevrolet equips the Equinox EV with an 11-inch digital instrument display and an adjacent 17.7-inch touchscreen with Google built-in compatibility. The system allows for Google Assistant voice commands, access to Google Play music, and Google Maps-based navigation.
Again, ahead of the Equinox EV’s arrival in early 2024, some details remain uncertain about standard and optional features across the Equinox EV’s six trims. But given its high-tech appeal, expect wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to be standard on every model.
Also almost certain will be wireless device charging, a surround-view parking camera, a head-up instrument display, and Super Cruise highway driving assist. Super Cruise is one of the best semi-autonomous drive systems currently available. It allows for hands-free driving on more than 400,000 miles of roadways throughout North America.
The Chevrolet Assist suite of safety items is also baked into every Equinox EV. It consists of automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, forward collision warning, lane-departure warning, and automatic high-beam headlights. Also standard is a blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear seat reminder.
Materials and Design
The cabin of the Equinox EV is in keeping with similarly priced electric rivals like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, Volkswagen ID.4, and Tesla Model Y. There are digital screens spanning the width of the dashboard.
But Chevrolet has bucked the trend for embedding nearly every control within a touchscreen interface. Climate controls are found on the bottom of the dashboard, below the touchscreen, where two rotary dials flank a row of six buttons. There is also a large dial positioned at the upper left-hand corner of the touchscreen to control audio volume.
Higher trims, including the range-topping Equinox EV 2RS and 3RS models, are fitted with racy touches like a flat-bottom steering wheel and available Adrenaline Red cabin trim.
Cargo Room and Flexibility
The Equinox EV has 57 cubic feet of cargo volume with the split-folding rear seatback down. For comparison, the standard Equinox offers about 64 cubic feet with its second row folded down. At the time of posting, Chevy hasn’t revealed how much cargo room the Equinox EV has behind its rear seat, but we suspect it will be roughly 25 cubic feet, about what you’d find in the Honda Prologue.
