The 2019 Acura MDX has been introduced with functional upgrades to the powertrain and suspension as well as the first-time availability of a new A-Spec trim level. The new MDX is expected to go on sale next month and will feature the AcuraWatch suite of driver safety assists as standard equipment, as well as the availability of Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD).
While the exterior changes primarily extend to the colors available, Acura has upgraded the interior of this 3-row crossover SUV with optional Desert Olive Ash wood trim, and new contrast stitching on the seats and door panels. Both front bucket seats now have 4-way power adjustable lumbar support as standard equipment, while the updated second-row seat in Technology and Entertainment package-equipped vehicles have easier passage to the third row. Advance Package models add matching wood center console trim.

Among the mechanical changes, the Acura’s Active Damper System, which had been limited to only the Sport Hybrid model, will now be available across the line. While the 3.5-liter, 290-horsepower V6 engine is the same, improvements to shift feel – achieved by prioritizing second-gear starts in normal situations — enhances drivability. However, when the vehicle is in sport mode, and on full-throttle acceleration as well as certain uphill and towing scenarios, first gear starts are given the priority. Engine stop/start has also been made standard across the line.
New A-Spec Trim
Touted as a sport appearance package, the new A-Spec trim comes with SH-AWD and features an aggressive front fascia, body-colored sills, larger exhaust tips, gloss black and dark chrome trim on the grille, headlamp bezels, window trim and tailgate spoiler. Half-inch wider 20-inch alloy wheels shod with 265/45 tires gives the vehicle a more powerful stance. Inside, the sport seats are trimmed in red or black leather with black Alcantara inserts, contrast stitching, A-Spec gauges, sport pedals and gloss black cabin accents. A-Spec models are priced from $55,795 including $995 destination.
Base front-drive 2019 Acura MDX models start at $45,295, while the base MDX with all-wheel drive begins at $47,295. The Technology Package adds $5,000, Technology & Entertainment adds an additional $2,000, and the Advance Package adds $4,750. The top-end MDX with Advance & Entertainment is $58,050 for front drive, while the range-topping AWD model equipped the same way is $60,050. All prices include destination. Pricing on the MDX Sport Hybrid will be announced later.
