The 2024 Honda Passport and 2024 Ford Edge are midsize SUVs that forego a more typical 3-row seating layout in favor of extra cargo space. They each have two rows of seats with plenty of room for adults in the front and back.
And yes, thanks to their cavernous cargo holds the Passport and Edge are excellent picks for SUV shoppers who plan on routinely carrying more stuff than people. You’ll also find plenty of storage nooks and compartments scattered around their cabins.
But these two SUVs are much more than convenient carrying cases, of course. They deliver all the tech, safety, refinement, and comfort touches buyers demand.
To find out more about them, let’s explore the highlights of the 2024 Honda Passport and Ford Edge.
2024 Honda Passport
The 2024 Honda Passport starts at $43,295, including shipping fee, and three trims are available: EX-L, TrailSport, and Black Edition. Gone is the former top-of-the-range Elite trim, and in its place, the Black Edition arrives with features like a power liftgate, 20-inch black-painted wheels, heated front and rear seats, and ambient interior lighting. All Passport models get down the road courtesy of a 280-horsepower V6 engine paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive (AWD).
Honda Passport Highlights
Strong resale value: SUV shoppers who want to know they’re making a fiscally sound decision will appreciate knowing the Honda Passport enjoys a strong record for resale value.
Lots of load-lugging space: The Ford Edge has lots of cargo space, though the Honda Passport does hold a narrow lead in terms of total capacity. Behind the split-folding rear seat back, you’ll find 41.2 cubic feet of room, versus around 39 cubic feet in the Ford. The Honda’s load-lugging advantage widens when the second row is folded; it has 77.7 cubic feet of room, compared to 73.4 in the Edge.
Adventure-themed TrailSport model: The TrailSport is your passport to adventure – sorry, we couldn’t resist. This all-terrain-themed model features a beefier suspension, off-road tires, extra underbody skid plates, roof rails, and LED fog lights.

2024 Ford Edge
The 2024 Ford Edge has a starting price of $39,960, including shipping, and comes in five trims: SE, SEL, ST-Line, Titanium, and ST. All versions, minus the ST model, come with a 250-hp turbocharged 4-cylinder engine coupled to an 8-speed automatic and AWD. This is a little down on power compared to the stout V6 used in the Honda Passport, though we’ve found there to be plenty of acceleration for scooting through traffic or making swift highway passing maneuvers.
Ford Edge Highlights
Sporty ST model: Starting at $48,700, including destination fee, the Edge ST is equipped with a twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 in place of the standard turbo 4-cylinder. With 335 horsepower on tap, this performance-oriented Ford Edge sprint from 0-60 mph in around six seconds. The ST also benefits from an upgraded sport suspension, 20-inch alloy wheels, and sharper steering responses. The Honda Passport doesn’t offer this kind of performance.
Luxurious Titanium trim: Maybe you’re more interested in being coddled than laying rubber when a traffic light turns green? The Edge Titanium uses the standard powertrain but comes packed with features like diamond-pattern synthetic leather upholstery, ambient interior lighting, a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, hands-free liftgate, a heated steering wheel, and chrome exterior trim pieces.
Easy-to-use infotainment system: Having been around since the 2015 model year, this generation of Edge is hardly the newest midsize SUV on the block. But you wouldn’t be able to tell thanks to its thoroughly modern and intuitive infotainment system. A 12-inch touchscreen is placed within easy reach, and standard features like wireless smartphone connectivity and a Wi-Fi hot spot make it extremely convenient.

Similarities
The Honda Passport and Ford Edge are pretty much neck and neck when it comes to interior space, practicality, safety equipment, and their respective fuel efficiency. Having AWD standard on all trims is another key advantage of these two 5-passenger midsize SUVs.
Conclusion
The Ford Edge is certainly a contender when it comes to interior space and driving refinement. You don’t need to go for the racy ST to enjoy its linear steering and firm yet compliant suspension tuning.
Dare we say this Ford SUV is kind of fun to drive? Yes, we do.
And this is especially true in the 335-hp ST model, which feels like a family-friendly Mustang on stilts. The Ford also has a better infotainment system, especially considering wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto aren’t even offered on the Honda Passport.
Yet the Honda Passport takes the lead in this match thanks to its superb record for reliability and resale value, not to mention an expansive roster of standard features. It provides greater towing capacity with a maximum of 5,000 pounds, versus 3,500 pounds with the Edge. All in all we think it’s the more modern and well-rounded choice.
