Shoppers looking for a small SUV expect many things from these vehicles. One of the most critical factors is affordability; however, another element is comfort. Saving some on that monthly payment won’t mean much if driving the vehicle is uncomfortable.
The 2025 Honda HR-V and 2025 Chevrolet Trailblazer offer plenty of room and are relatively easy on the wallet. Let’s check out these two subcompact utility vehicles.
2025 Honda HR-V
The 2025 Honda HR-V features a more traditional-looking exterior that keeps it in line with the design aesthetic of Honda’s SUV portfolio. It’s attractive and should help draw more buyers. This current generation is on a bigger platform than the previous edition, resulting in more interior space, a better ride, and a more powerful engine.
That engine is a 158-horsepower, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). If you want all-wheel drive (AWD), it’s available for an upcharge. The HR-V’s fuel economy is 28 mpg combined, which is about average in the segment.
Aside from a spacious cabin, passengers enjoy plenty of new technology to make the ride enjoyable and comfortable, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and noise cancellation technology. Pricing begins at $26,750, including the mandatory destination fee.
Honda HR-V Highlights
Locking technology: “Did I lock the car?” The HR-V’s Smart Entry with Walk Away Auto Lock secures the vehicle automatically as you depart with the key fob.
Safety first: The Honda HR-V gets a 5-Star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). It’s also named a Top Safety Pick + by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
HondaLink: Using a smartphone, you can access various services, such as stolen vehicle location, geofencing, automatic collision notification, and service appointments.

2025 Chevrolet Trailblazer
The 2025 Chevrolet Trailblazer features two traits associated with its storied brand: value and style. The subcompact SUV is among GM’s smallest and most affordable vehicles. The Trailblazer comes in four trim levels — LS, LT, Activ, and RS — and prices start at just $24,395, including the destination charge.
With a front end highlighting the Chevy Blazer-inspired exterior, standard equipment includes cruise control, push-button start, and an HD backup camera. On the inside, a new 11-inch infotainment system and an 8-inch digital gauge cluster are the norm.
You have two engine options for the Trailblazer: a 137-hp turbocharged 1.2-liter 3-cylinder or a 155-hp, 1.3-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder. The smaller engine is acceptable for such a small vehicle, but if you want to feel a little punch, you’ll need to spend the money to upgrade. However, when you do, you also get all-wheel drive. The interior offers plenty of space for grownups in the front and back seats.
Chevrolet Trailblazer Highlights
Chevy Safety Assist: Standard on Trailblazer, it bundles driver assistance features like automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist with lane-departure warning, a following distance indicator, forward collision alert, and automatic high beams.
Rough and ready: Trailblazer’s Activ trim gives it a rugged look, plus more adventurous tires and a special off-road suspension system for added capability, especially with all-wheel drive. The Honda HR-V doesn’t offer an off-road-influenced trim.
All-wheel drive: All-wheel drive is available with any version powered by the 155-hp engine. If you add all-wheel drive, you also get a 9-speed automatic transmission instead of the CVT.

Conclusion
The Honda HR-V enjoys a slightly larger engine but has a slightly higher price. Meanwhile, the Chevy Trailblazer is both roomier and more fuel-efficient. Each boasts attractive exterior styling and optional all-wheel drive. This is a tough choice on paper, so you should head to your nearest Honda and Chevrolet dealers for test drives.
