The Genesis GV70 and Buick Envision are 2-row premium SUVs with eye-catching designs, all-wheel drive, and a commanding view of the road, which people love about sport utility vehicles.
Their relatively tidy dimensions mean they are easier to maneuver than larger, bulkier midsize or full-size SUVs — not to mention kinder on a fuel budget. The GV70 was introduced for the 2022 model year and immediately impressed us with its driving dynamics and interior quality.
The Envision gets a complete makeover this model year, complete with an aggressive front-end design in line with the brand’s daring new design language. The Envision used to be a forgettable also-ran, but the fresh 2025 model is a real contender.
To find out more about each one, let’s see how the Genesis GV70 and Buick Envision compare.
2025 Genesis GV70
The Genesis GV70 has a starting price of $47,050, including a $1,350 factory-to-dealer destination charge. One of the things we like most about this Genesis is how many comfort features and driver aids are standard. These include a 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen, remote start, wired smartphone connectivity, wireless device charging, navigation, and satellite radio.
The standard drivetrain is a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, while a twin-turbo V6 is optional. Both are coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. There’s also an all-electric variant called the Electrified GV70.
Genesis GV70 Highlights
Class-leading warranty: The Genesis GV70 comes with a 5-year/60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, along with 10 years/100,000 miles of powertrain coverage. Added to this mix is three years or 36,000 miles of scheduled maintenance, along with five years of unlimited mileage roadside assistance. This not only exceeds the Buick’s coverage, it blows past pretty much every direct rival.
Ergo Motion driver’s seat: When is a massaging driver’s seat more than a massaging driver’s seat? When it’s an Ergo Motion seat, of course. Let us explain. It employs programmed movements specifically designed to relieve pressure on the driver’s pelvis and lumbar region. This available feature takes the literal pain out of long or tedious drives.
Safety scores: The Genesis GV70 has earned Top Safety Pick honors from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). It also registered a top 5-Star rating from the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Performance: Thanks to its 300-horsepower turbocharged 4-cylinder, the Genesis GV70 has one of the most powerful entry-level drivetrains among compact luxury SUVs. For even greater acceleration and passing power, there is a twin-turbo V6 that produces 375 horsepower.

2025 Buick Envision
2024 model shown
The 2025 Buick Envision has a substantially lower starting price than the Genesis GV70. It starts at $37,895, including delivery fees. There are three trims – Preferred, Sport Touring, and Avenir – and motivating each one is a 228-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. While it straddles the line between a mainstream and luxury brand, during our time with it, we’ve found the Envision has a premium feel and is relaxing to drive.
Buick Envision Highlights
Elegant interior: The first thing you’ll notice in the new Envision’s interior is a digital instrument cluster mounted flush with an expansive infotainment touchscreen. In total, it stretches 30 inches diagonally and wouldn’t look out of place in a BMW, Mercedes-Benz, or Genesis product. Upper trims have niceties like perforated leather upholstery, a head-up instrument display, massaging front seats, and a digital rearview camera.
Value: It’s hard to overlook the fact that the Envision’s starting price is nearly $10,000 less than the GV70. Even the range-topping Avenir model can be had for pretty close to the starting price of the Genesis GV70.
Avenir trim: Speaking of the Avenir model, it warrants a little extra attention. The fanciest Buick Envision has niceties like a head-up display, perforated leather, a massaging driver’s seat, Bose audio, and a unique appearance package. And you get all of that luxury without crossing the $50K mark.

Similarities
The Genesis GV70 and Buick Envision have more in common than you might think, given their price differences. They have quiet cabins, composed suspensions, plenty of tech touches, and adult-friendly second-row seating.
Conclusion
We admire the updated Envision’s newfound moxie. What might have been a very lopsided competition with the previous model now feels considerably closer. The Envision boasts an airy and modern cabin, whisper-quiet ride, and head-turning shape. It definitely deserves a test drive.
But the Genesis GV70 has considerably stronger performance and cabin quality that feels a cut above the Envision. It also boasts outstanding warranty coverage, something that adds extra peace of mind.
