2025 Genesis G80 vs. 2025 Audi A7 Comparison

Although the 2025 Genesis G80 and the 2025 Audi A7 are both midsize cars, they’re really two different ways of approaching luxury car ownership. The G80 method is a mix of traditional (it’s a sedan) with up-to-the-minute technology and hard-to-resist value for money.

Known for its swept-back shape and tapering roof, the Audi A7 has a rear hatchback that opens to reveal a surprisingly large cargo area. That’s perhaps the most mundane aspect of the A7, though. Style and quality permeate throughout the A7. There’s a certain Audi prestige that the younger Genesis marque has yet to attain. And even though the A7’s suspension is not enthusiast-firm, there’s an undertone of sportiness to it. The G80, meanwhile, stays resolutely in the comfort zone.

Both cars have all-wheel drive as standard, as well as plenty of occupant space, but let’s get deeper into the other similarities and differences to see if a clear winner emerges.

2025 Genesis G80

2025 Genesis G80

The 2025 Genesis G80 starts at $58,350, including the destination charge. The entry-level powertrain consists of a 300-horsepower turbocharged 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine linked to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The 3.5T variant comes with a 375-horsepower twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6. All-wheel drive is standard across the lineup. These specs are the same as last year, but the 2025 G80 has received several changes. These include minor exterior styling revisions, plus a bunch of tech upgrades. Such as the new super-large 27-inch OLED display, standard wireless phone integration, over-the-air updates, and USB-C ports replacing USB-A ports. Genesis has also reinstated physical controls in the center console for volume, tuning, and temperature adjustment. The Digital Key feature now works with iPhones, Bang & Olufsen sound systems replace the erstwhile Lexicon set-ups, 64-color ambient lighting goes into more spots in the cabin, a fingerprint reader becomes available, and the 360-degree camera system (in Sport Prestige trim) has a screen capture function — owners can access this remotely to check on their car’s surroundings.

Genesis G80 Highlights

Standard all-wheel drive: Standard with every Genesis G80, all-wheel drive enhances traction on both slick and dry roads.

Bang & Olufsen surround-sound system: Although we loved the old Lexicon stuff, the 18-speaker/1,400-watt setup available in the 2025 G80 is similarly superb.

Highway Driving Assist 2: This partially automated highway driving assist system is in every Genesis G80 variant, combining safety aids like adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance to reduce driver fatigue during long highway treks. We’ve found it works extremely well.

Turn up the heat: The Genesis G80 engineering team must be cold-blooded. Not only are heated front seats standard, so are heated second-row seats, plus a heated steering wheel. Anyone in a cold climate will appreciate these comfort features.

2025 Audi A7

One major caveat in this comparison is the starting prices. The 2025 Audi A7 commands $73,495, including the destination charge. That’s significantly higher than an entry-level Genesis G80, and A7 prices only soar upward when fitting this sleek car with options and more powerful engines. That said, during our many road tests, the A7 has always left us wishing we could have more time behind the wheel. It’s quick, agile, and has a ride that’s both sporty and comfortable. There have been some changes for 2025 — the Homelink remote garage door button is now integrated into the rearview mirror, the free Audi Connect Nav trial subscription is increased from six months to three years. The optional Convenience bundle for the Premium trim gains the LED Interior Lighting Plus package. Premium Plus receives dual-pane acoustic glass, quad-zone automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, and heated rear seats. The top Prestige trim gets upgraded front seats with massaging, and extended high-quality leather upholstery. A new generation might arrive for next year.

Audi A7 Highlights

Cargo volume: One of the more practical aspects of the A7 is its wide-opening rear hatchback that swings upward to reveal a lot of cargo space. Behind the split-folding rear seats is a trunk measuring almost 25 cubic feet in capacity — nearly double what the Genesis G80 provides.

S7 and RS 7 models: The base drivetrain in the A7 is a stout 335-horsepower turbocharged V6 coupled with a 7-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The passing power of this engine will satisfy just about anyone, yet Audi goes a couple of steps further. Under the hood of the S7 is a twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 producing 444 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque. Things get wilder and faster with the awesome RS 7. It packs a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 generating 621 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque.

Interior quality: Audi’s interiors are masterclasses in refinement and quality. This is especially true of the A7. Its controls are located perfectly, while everything in the cabin looks great and feels built to last. We’ve noted that the dual-screen infotainment system has a learning curve, but that’s a minor quibble in an otherwise exemplary interior.

Bang & Olufsen audio: Like the Genesis G80, Audi offers a fantastic Bang & Olufsen audio setup in the A7. In this case, it’s a 17-speaker and 710-watt surround-sound system. It’s standard from the Premium Plus level (which we recommend), one rung up from the entry-level Premium version.

Similarities

Both the Genesis G80 and Audi A7 are brimful of luxury touches and, in our opinion, have especially eye-catching exteriors. Both are smooth in operation, with precise steering as well as strong engines that can get them up to speed quickly.

Conclusion

Technically, in our ranking of Best Midsize Luxury Cars, the Audi A7 is higher than the Genesis G80. We stand by that rating. The A7 is an outstanding luxury car that’s both posh and practical. The sporty S7 and RS 7 also happen to be wonderfully fast. We have a particular fondness for any Audi S car.

That said, the Genesis G80 is refined and comfortable, and has a starting price well below the Audi A7, yet still with a lot of standard equipment. It also has more comprehensive warranty coverage, which includes three years or 36,000 miles of free scheduled maintenance. Luxury car shoppers who appreciate value and the peace of mind that comes with a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty could end up favoring the Genesis G80.
