2025 Genesis G70 vs. 2025 Alfa Romeo Giulia Comparison

The 2025 Genesis G70 and 2025 Alfa Romeo Giulia are compact luxury sedans with a penchant for driving thrills. Sporting turbocharged engines and a choice of rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, the G70 and Giulia deliver the kind of driving dynamics that make you take the long way home on roads with the most twists and turns. During our many miles of road tests, we’ve come to appreciate getting behind the wheel of vehicles like these, engineered for driving excitement rather than maximum cupholder count and cargo volume.

To see how they compare, let’s explore the highlights of the Genesis G70 and Alfa Romeo Giulia.

2025 Genesis G70

The Genesis G70’s base engine is a 300-horsepower turbocharged 2.5-liter 4-cylinder unit. Brembo brakes are fitted at every trim level, which means this sleek sedan comes to a stop as quickly as it sprints from a standstill to 60 mph.

On the subject of speediness, a 365-hp twin-turbo 3.3-liter V6 continues to be optional. Rear-wheel drive is standard; all-wheel drive is available at $2,100. Pricing for the 2025 Genesis G70 starts at $43,250, including destination charges.

Genesis G70 Highlights

Strong turbocharged engines: Many might gravitate to the more powerful twin-turbo V6, but having spent plenty of time with the 300-horsepower turbo 4-cylinder, we think it represents the better choice. Sure, there isn’t the same straight-line punch, yet it’s sufficiently gutsy and gets up to highway speed with little effort. With this entry-level powertrain, the front end is lighter and so the steering feels sharper. And no matter which you choose, the added all-weather grip of all-wheel drive is available as an option.

Lots of standard equipment: Even a luxury-badged automobile can represent a great bargain. That’s true with the G70 because it comes loaded with a considerable amount of comfort, tech, and safety features as standard. Such as simulated leather upholstery, heated front seats, a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.

Superb warranty: Knowing your car is covered for many years and miles is always a good thing. That’s why we want to point out the superb warranty attached to the Genesis G70. Buyers get 5-year/60,000-mile basic coverage, along with 10 years/100,000 miles of powertrain coverage.

2025 Alfa Romeo Giulia

The Alfa Romeo Giulia is now entering its ninth model year, which makes it something of an elder statesman among small luxury sedans. Except this sleek 4-door doesn’t feel anywhere close to retirement age when you’re behind the wheel. A turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder sends 280 horsepower to the rear wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Like the Genesis G70, there’s a choice of rear- or all-wheel drive. Pricing starts at $45,990.

Alfa Romeo Giulia Highlights

Superb steering: If you take a Giulia for a test drive, make sure the route has lots of twists and turns. The steering is thrilling — precise and effortless. Even better is that this degree of agility and fun is there during mundane day-to-day trips as well.

Thrilling engine: The acceleration and exhaust note of the 280-hp turbo 4-cylinder are equally entertaining. Press the gas pedal from a standstill, and 60 mph comes up in about 5.1 seconds.

Still looks great: Despite having been on the compact luxury sedan scene for close to a decade, the Giulia still turns heads wherever it goes. From its shield-shaped grille to its pert tail, the exterior is taut and curvaceous.

Similarities

The Genesis G70 and Alfa Romeo Giulia make an intriguing match-up. They have engines within 20 horsepower of each other, and all-wheel drive is available with both cars. Even some of their flaws are the same. Neither is great in terms of fuel economy — although the Alfa fares a little better — and rear legroom is a bit tight for taller adults.

Conclusion

Starting with the Giulia, we still love the way it looks and drives. It feels like a passion purchase, and in some cases, that’s not a bad thing when choosing the ideal new car. Problems arise when the discussion turns to things like resale value and reliability — the Genesis G70 scores higher marks in each category. Since Alfa Romeo has also chopped the 2025 lineup down to one model, we’re probably looking at this being the final year of production for this generation.

The Genesis enjoys an outstanding warranty, better interior quality, a lot of standard equipment, and holds the power advantage. This makes it easy for us to recommend the G70 wholeheartedly.
