2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E vs. 2024 Jaguar I-Pace Comparison

The 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E is part small SUV, part wagon, and all-electric. Having first arrived for the 2021 model year, during our extensive road tests, the Mach-E has impressed us with its sharp handling, solid driving range, and a generous amount of standard equipment.

The Jaguar I-Pace debuted for the 2019 model year and quickly established itself as a sport-tuned EV with racy looks to match. Its shape turns heads, and the acceleration provided by its potent dual-electric-motor powertrain strains neck muscles.

Let’s explore the highlights of the Mustang Mach-E and I-Pace to see how they compare.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E starts at $41,890, including a $1,895 destination charge. Because of increasing competition among EVs, that base price is several thousand dollars less expensive than in 2023. The Mach-E has four trims: Select, Premium, GT, and the new-for-2024 Rally.

The Select and Premium are rear-wheel drive (RWD) and have a single electric motor producing 266 horsepower. All-wheel drive (AWD) is available in these two lower trims and comes standard in the dual-motor GT and Rally models.

Ford Mustang Mach-E Highlights

Mach-E Rally model: The Rally trim is new this year and has racy looks to match its 346 horsepower dual-motor powertrain. AWD is standard, as is the 91-kWh extended-range battery pack. The EPA estimates range at 265 miles. The Mach-E Rally rides on sporty 19-inch wheels and has a lifted suspension, underbody skid plates, a rear spoiler, and beefy all-terrain tires. This is the Mach-E for you if you want to take an EV beyond the pavement.

Wide-screen infotainment screen: Every Mach-E comes with a 15.5-inch infotainment touchscreen that’s mounted vertically in the middle of the dashboard. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, four USB ports, wireless device charging, satellite radio, and navigation are all standard. We’ve found this system easy to use while driving. We also appreciate the 10.7-inch digital instrument display that puts vital vehicle information directly in front of the driver.

Competitive driving range: While not class-leading, the Mach-E has the EV driving legs to match the competition. Range varies from a low of 250 miles in the Select and Premium models with the standard 72-kWh battery to a high of 320 miles when the rear-wheel drive Premium model is optioned with the extended range battery. Even the racy Rally model provides 265 miles per charge.

A cooler on wheels: Leave the cooler at home because the 4.7 cubic-foot front trunk (or “frunk”) is on the scene. The storage space in the nose of the Mach-E has removable plugs in its drain holes, so you can fill it with ice for tailgating parties.

2024 Jaguar I-Pace

The Jaguar I-Pace starts at $73,775 (including a $1,275 destination fee) and is available solely in the R-Dynamic HSE trim. That’s considerably more than the asking price of the Mach-E, though it’s worth noting that the I-Pace is loaded with standard features. These include AWD, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, five USB ports, voice recognition, and a Meridian surround-sound audio system.

Jaguar I-Pace Highlights

Quick and refined driving dynamics: The I-Pace has the moves to back up its sleek shape. It has dual-electric motors that send 394 hp and 512 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels. Accelerating from a standstill to 60 mph takes only 4.5 seconds. We think the Jaguar’s balance of a smooth ride and linear handling is even more impressive than its straight-line speed. An available adaptive suspension inspires even higher confidence when attacking seriously twisty roads.

Meridian stereo: If you’re an EV shopper and audiophile, the I-Pace’s 15-speaker Meridian surround-sound audio system will be music to your ears. This 825-watt system has crystal-clear sound quality and booming bass.

Shapely exterior: The I-Pace still looks good. Though the 2019 model year wasn’t that long ago, a lot has changed in the EV world since the I-Pace debuted. The swept-back shape and ground-hugging stance give it a blend of SUV-meets-sports-car. Options like 22-inch alloy wheels and a contrasting black roof further boost this Jaguar’s curb appeal.

Similarities

The Mach-E and I-Pace have quick reflexes and plenty of range to get EV owners through a typical driving day. They’re also good-looking vehicles and very quick when you need to make a quick getaway.

Conclusion

As much as we like the Jaguar I-Pace’s athleticism and handsome design, the Mustang Mach-E wins in this comparison. It has a much lower base price, more range, and upper trims more than match the acceleration of the slinky Jaguar.
