2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E vs. 2025 Audi Q4 e-tron Comparison

Both mainstream and luxury automakers are diving into the electric vehicle (EV) market. While the transition to EVs won’t happen overnight, it’s good to see a growing variety of models that cater to a wider range of car shopping budgets.

Here we’re comparing the 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E with the 2025 Audi Q4 e-tron. A blue-oval-badged Ford product rarely gets pitted against a four-ringed Audi vehicle. Would a fancier label lead to a better EV, or could a more affordable model be the wiser purchase?

Keep reading to find out how the Mustang Mach-E and Q4 e-tron midsize 2-row electric SUVs compare.

2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E

Thanks to a several thousand dollar price cut for the 2025 model year, the Mustang Mach-E starts at $38,490. It has four trims: Select, Premium, GT, and Rally. You can choose from two battery packs and rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD).

Ford launched the Mach-E in the 2021 model year and has made notable upgrades since, including range increases, added tech features, and new trims. For 2025, it gets sportier styling components, a heat pump as standard equipment, and enhancements to Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free driving system that includes Automatic Lane Change.

Ford Mustang Mach-E Highlights

BlueCruise: Ford’s hands-free highway driving aid first became available on the Mustang Mach-E in 2023. The system manages lane positioning, acceleration, and braking and can be activated on more than 130,000 miles of roads throughout North America. We were impressed by this system during our road tests.

Premium model: If driving range is of utmost importance, consider the Premium model. With RWD and the optional extended range battery pack, it provides an EPA-rated 320 miles of range — 32 miles more than the best range offered by the Q4 e-tron.

Mach-E Rally model: This adventurous addition to the lineup aims at anyone who craves off-road driving thrills in an EV. The Rally model has a raised suspension, upgraded dampers, a front grille shield with integrated LED fog lights, an aluminum underbody skid plate, all-terrain tires, a rear spoiler, a black-painted roof, and white-painted 19-inch alloy wheels.

Drainable frunk: The name isn’t poetic, but many EVs have a nifty feature called a “frunk” — a front-mounted trunk where a gasoline engine might typically reside. A cool twist with the Mustang Mach-E’s 4.7-cubic-foot frunk is that it’s waterproof and has drain holes with removable plugs. So, if you plan on tailgating in your EV, this Ford has you covered, chilled, and drained.

2025 Audi Q4 e-tron

The Q4 e-tron arrived for the 2022 model year, and, similar to the Mustang Mach-E, it has been subject to a steady stream of improvements. For 2025, it now has a range of up to 288 miles and more standard technology, including Audi’s Virtual Cockpit Plus digital dash, enhanced navigation, and Audi Connect. Pricing starts at $51,095, including destination charge.

Audi Q4 e-tron Highlights

Sportback bodystyle: An interesting feature of the Q4 e-tron is that there are two available body styles. The less expensive choice is the more traditional and upright SUV-shaped model. The Q4 e-tron Sportback has a tapered roofline to impart more of a coupe-like silhouette.

E-tron 55 powertrain: The 335-hp dual-motor arrangement with quattro all-wheel drive is a lively powertrain that fits the brand’s image.

Augmented reality head-up display: This not only looks cool but also helps keep a driver’s eyes focused on the road ahead. The available augmented reality head-up display superimposes directional arrows onto navigation commands. You are told where to go and get pointed in the right direction.

Interior quality: The Mustang Mach-E has a modern and airy cabin but doesn’t match the quality and ambiance of the Q4 e-tron. Audi builds some of the best luxury vehicle interiors, so we’re pleased to report this trend carries through here. Heated seats, ambient lighting, leather upholstery, tri-zone climate control, and a panoramic sunroof are standard.

Conclusion

While Ford is a mainstream brand and Audi is luxury, this contest could be a tossup, especially as both of these models have seen price reductions from the prior year. If you want a luxury badge, you probably already know your choice, but the Mustang Mach-E might surprise you with its technology and features, especially when you consider Ford’s excellent BlueCruise hands-free driving system.

We recommend test-driving both of these excellent electric SUVs to ultimately determine which fits your fancy.
