2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 vs. 2025 Chevrolet Colorado Comparison

If you’re unsure if you want a full-size or a midsize pickup, Chevrolet’s got you covered. The 2025 Silverado and 2025 Colorado provide Chevy fans two strong options with spacious cabins, multiple powertrain choices, and the latest technology.

While you’re trying to determine which size truck is best for you, Chevy’s two choices will give you plenty to consider as we look at these two pickups.

2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

The Chevrolet Silverado enjoys plenty of status in the truck world. It’s the second-best seller annually in the U.S., partially due to the variety of choices buyers have when it comes to the Silverado. It’s a handsome beast and has the capabilities to back up its rugged look.

One thing truck owners want is the power on hand to accomplish whatever task is at hand. Chevy offers Silverado owners three gas-powered options and a turbodiesel. They range from a 2.7-liter 4-cylinder putting out 310 horsepower to a 6.2-liter V8 generating 420 hp. If you need something more powerful, move up to the Silverado HD lineup, which is reviewed separately. A fully electric Silverado, also reviewed separately, is available, too. Fuel economy for the engines is appropriate for the class, although the turbodiesel gets an impressive 26 mpg combined.

The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab short bed is available in nine trim levels that allow you to mix and match your powertrains, creature comforts, and technology to your liking. The cabin is spacious, with room for up to six people. A 13.4-inch touchscreen handles the infotainment functions on all but the two lowest trim levels. Pricing for crew cab models starts at $44,695, including the destination fee.

Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Highlights

Multi-Flex tailgate: Available on all trim levels, this innovative tailgate can be used in six different ways to help load cargo or gain access to the truck bed. It can also act as a work surface and provide hauling flexibility. The Colorado’s tailgate has added functionality, but not quite to the level of the Multi-Flex.

Towing excellence: Chevy makes it easier than ever to tow with its Trailering Camera System, which you can get standard starting at the LTZ trim level. It gives the driver 14 viewing angles of the truck and trailer, including a clear, rearward view that makes the trailer “disappear.” Plus, the brand’s Max Trailering package adds extra cooling, stronger rear springs, specially tuned shocks, and a tougher rear axle. When properly equipped, the Silverado 1500 can tow up to 13,300 pounds.

Super Cruise: While only available on the top-level High Country trim and not at all on the Colorado, the company’s hands-free driving system works on 400,000 miles of roads in North America. It also works while towing a trailer, which can make hauling things around much easier. However, the Max Trailering package is not available with Super Cruise.

2025 Chevrolet Colorado

2024 Chevrolet Colorado

2024 model shown

Chevy’s midsize Colorado received a design makeover for 2023. It features a larger front grille, slit-like headlamps, and wide wheelwells, suggesting this is one tough, capable pickup.

With five trim levels, the Colorado can be configured as anything from a work truck to a rock crawler. However, most people will upgrade to at least the LT to get a few more goodies. For another $3,300, 4-wheel drive (4WD) can be added to the WT and LT models, which is standard for each ascending trim package.

All 2025 Colorado pickups are built with the 310-hp TurboMax 2.7 liter, 4-cylinder engine, with 430 lb-ft of torque, an upgrade for some trims from the previous model year. Combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission, this drivetrain can tow up to a class-best 7,700 pounds. Pricing starts at $33,495, including the destination fee.

Chevrolet Colorado Highlights

Touchscreen: One of our favorite standard features of the Colorado is an 11.3-inch touchscreen, which falls in-between the sizes of the Silverado’s availble options. It’s also easy to operate. Moreover, Google built-in is offered with connectivity to a driver’s Google account.

Drive modes: If you want to dial in your driving experience, the Colorado has up to five modes available based on your driving type. You can select Normal, Off-Road, Terrain, and an available Tow/Haul mode. Baja, the fifth mode, is unique to the ZR2 trim.

Off-roader: If you need a rough-and-ready off-roader straight from the factory, pass the Trail Boss and go straight to the ZR2 Bison Edition. The ultimate off-roading Colorado gives you several upgrades designed for maximizing any off-road experience, including a raised suspension, larger wheels and tires, unique off-road dampers, and more.

Conclusion

If you’re a Chevrolet guy or gal, then the upside is there are two excellent choices here. However, aside from the logo, they’re different vehicles with different price points and different capabilities. The Colorado is less expensive and capable of handling most of the tasks that pickup owners tackle on a day-to-day basis. Unless you need the space or the muscle of a full-size truck, take the cash savings and get a Colorado.
