Positive Review
So far the Volt has exceeded our expectations. We have used just 1.18 gallons of gas in the first 1000 miles. If you factor in the cost of electricity we are still close to 200 mpg. The car has run flawlessly thus far, no bugs or software glitches. The ride is smooth and very quiet, like driving on a cloud. GM is very attentive to the Volt owners and has assigned a Volt Advisor who checks in monthly to be sure everything is OK and that there are no questions. They solicit feedback as well for changes/improvements. Probably more than most new vehicles, the Volt's value will depend upon your driving style and the range you drive in. Keeping it charged and in EV mode will bring the best return value. If overall cost is your main concern, a used car or more typical high MPG compact is probably a better choice. But if you want to drive the most interesting and technically advanced vehicle available, try the Volt. We love it!
Critical Review
The first 6 months was almost trouble free, only had it in the dealer a few times for electrical problems but its been a nightmere since then. Even if it was a totally problem free car the battery range is getting less all the time. I have an 18 mile drive each way to work and back home each day so on paper I should be able to make it to work and back on battery only. When I first got the car I would get close to home before the gas engine would need to start and take me the rest of the way but now I cant even make it half way to work and the batteries are drained. The dealer test's the batteries and they said they "check out ok". There is no warranty for loss of range so I am now stuck with a gas car that I paid twice as much as any other comparably sized gas car out there and the resale value is horrible. Its funny that most of the good reviews on this car are from people that only have a few thousand miles or less... mabey people should wait more than a month to rave how great a car is so people like me dont make a mistake and buy a car based on all the "good reviews".

I bought this car new in 2014 and I finally paid it off and then it died, 96k miles. The battery does not charge, the dealer cannot fix it due to the batteries being very back ordered. It has a major oil leak that will cost more then the car to fix. The car smokes and runs rough and will not accelerate. This car has not been reliable, it has had multiple electrical problems from the start, the back up camera stopped working 2 months after buying the vehicle and had it fixed and then it broke again. Multiple problems with the airbag sensors and windows. The car is under warranty and we took it to the dealer, they offered us $1500 for it. Now we have to file a claim and probably hire a lawyer.
hybrid, battery, electricity, comfort, reliable, bluetooth, smooth, value
backseat can be hot with the glass hatchback above you.
I've had our 2015 Chevy Volt since 2016, 8 years now and have never had any problems. It's great in electric mode, and has been everything we've needed it for. Saving money on gas over the past 8 years, helping us avoid gas stations. We only have had to get gas seldomly; mostly for out of town trips and that is great freedom! The car is built well. The seats are very comfy. The biggest downside we've experienced, is the back seat can get warm driving with the glass above your head and we now keep a couple brimmed hats in the back for people riding back there midday.
In winter, don't have to stand outside and pump gas. Driving on winter roads is easier, with weight in middle of vehicle.
Hard to get in and out of, due to sitting so low to the ground.
Purchased this vehicle back in September 2013. GM claimed 36 miles a charge. Summer driving, the car got 53 miles to a charge, winter driving 36 miles per charge. First winter drove the vehicle in a few bad winter storms (snow and Ice), due to batteries in the middle of the vehicle, the car stayed in lane without much drifting. Busted through snow drifts without any problems. 11 years later, the summer driving we get 46 miles to a charge and 32 miles in the winter. This car does have a generator that runs when needed on Highway or when the temperatures drop below 15 Degrees Fahrenheit. Tank full is 8 gallons. Generally we use maybe 10 gallons of fuel a year. 95 % of gas used is from the low winter Temps. Love the car due to not having to go to a gas station. All we do is go home and plug it in. It's always charged for the next day. I don't like using gas so this car is not used for driving on Highway, at 55+ miles per hour, the battery is depleted fast . We used it to go to work (10 miles each way) grocery store, church, etc. Long highway trips we use a regular gas vehicle.
Great price for a used plug-in hybrid can be had
Back seat space, no spare tire
Even though it far out of warrantee, the Volt (Premium) in my case, seems to be a very economical used Plug-in Hybrid that has range (9 gallons of gas and 11KW of battery power). With a 38 mile all electric range (after which it turns into a hybrid basically) and 4 DRIVING MODE options, this can be a great cheap vehicle. Back seat space is the worst thing about this car but for kids it's OK. Hatch back cargo room is very good for a compact car. The handling is very good and peppy! Change oil and tires once in a great while and that's about it. Enjoy!
Very inexpensive to operate. No tune ups.

I love my 2014 Chevy volt! I have never had any problems with it and it's still is a pleasure to drive. I giggle every time I go past a gas station. I let it trickle charge overnight and it's ready to go the next morning. I got the full works when I bought this car it was top of the line. This will probably be the last car I ever own. There is no reason for me to trade it for anything else.
Reliable and gas efficient
Limited rear seat space
I purchased it brand new in 2013 for my daily commute of 100 miles. After ten years of ownership, it has accumulated over 185,000 miles. Over the years, I've had to replace a few components such as the HV DC converter, radiator, engine valve cover, and O2 sensors. However, aside from these replacements, it continues to run smoothly, almost as if it were still new.
Great torque
High cost to replace battery
Had this car for 6 years and enjoyed it right until I went to start it in the garage and it was dead. Towed to dealer who gave told me the traction battery failed and $11k to replace with an unknown ETA because the battery had to be built. But they were sold as battery being serviceable!! Not anymore. No credit on the old battery no credit of any sort and the warranty expired 2,000 miles ago. Sold it for 1,500 before the dealer said they would part it out and crush it (so good for the environment???). Great car right until it wasn’t. Buyer beware of any Volt that has used the battery more than a few years.
Lots of torque and sips gas when needed
Back seat is for small adults or kids
I purchased a 2012 in 2019 and it has 160k miles on it. I absolutely love it. It has been a great car and I expect it to last a while even with its 11 year old battery, I still get 38 miles of range in electric before the engine kicks in. Much recomended.
