VS

Critical Review

"Don't waste your money."

This SUV is the great example of what a SUV should not be. It is under powered, doesn’t hand well and the fuel mileage for a two liter engine is not very good. Run the AC and you feel like you should get out and push any time you need to accelerate. I have also had numerous problems with this vehicle, including transmission, engine and electrical problems. You will also find out, should you need any parts from the dealer for this vehicle that it is actually a Suzuki and the parts are not cheap or even reasonably priced. The only plus I can think of for this SUV is that it does go well in mud and snow.

Up hill down dale Daffny will get you there
Pros

Great tyres, starter motor, new rotors pads 21mpg

Cons

Body work

Body on right side has lots of dings and dents but she goes and I trust her. Engine is great breaks great it's the body that's not good. I think some of the dents could be pushed out but a new right front wing panel about $100 one line and a good steam clean. I'm 65 trying to retire. With back seats down, huge cargo space.

19 years with no maintenance
Pros

Reliable, durable, no maintenance

Cons

Loud in cabin, no get up and go

This is an incredibly durable and reliable car. My parents bought this car for me to learn how to drive on when I was 15 (bought used in 2006), and I still have it and drive it every day. It's towed all of my belongings across the continent three times, from VT to BC to TX to MA, without a single problem. Sure, the cabin is incredibly loud and the car has close to no get up and go, but eventually it gets you from A to B every single time. Over it's 19 year life, the only problem I have had was a flat tire, and thankfully there was a spare on the back so it wasn't even a problem. I've probably flushed the fluids two or three times over my course of ownership and once I needed to replace a component of the undercarriage, but that's about it. This is an incredible car and I'm going to be so sad when it finally needs to go to the scrap yard.

Great First Car
Pros

Easy to park, reliable, fun to drive, unique

Cons

Mine sure does like to squeak

My dad got me a 2001 Chevy Tracker as my first car when I turned 16. The car had been a little beaten in when we got it. It doesn’t have air conditioning, the brights don’t work, and just some other small issues that weren’t dealbreakers for me. I’ve been driving the car consistently for a year now, and the only large issue we ran into was a broken axel in the front right tire. It was almost something we DIYers weren’t going to be willing to fix, but I cried and cried until my dad fixed it. The only change now is that I am limited to only RWD, but that’s not tragic. The car is incredible for learning how to drive. It’s easy to understand, it loves to go, and it’s easy to maneuver and park. If the air conditioning wasn’t broken in mine at least, I could see a well-taken care of tracker really serving someone as a good, reliable car for a long time.

I'd buy a new one today if they were still offered
Pros

Pulls a boat easily. Tight turning radius. View.

Cons

I can't buy a new one today.

I have the small engine, auto with 2 doors and 2wd. I LOVE IT!! I bought this little yellow beast new and I use & abuse it.. And it keeps on going. Other than a leaking heater core early on, this suv has beef great. For 12 years I've towed a 2000# work boat/trailer 2-3 days a week... and the boat has a 130hp I/O drive. Some days, work took me 120 miles from home. I've even pulled a small skidsteer with it. The last couple years I've been doing construction and engineering, pulling big & small loads, short & long distances without problems. Features I love: sitting higher up so I can see traffic.. not just hubcaps. (And I don't bump my head upon entering the vehicle. The automatic transmission easily pulls my boat/trailer up boat ramps. The short turning radius makes trailer handling easy. The 2" trailer hitch/receiver is very versatile, pulling a trailer or carrying a rack. And finally, I love the fiberglass top that replaced the rag top... quieter and easier to heat/cool.
