Positive Review
We haven't owned this truck long, but WOW. We have owned three GM pickups since 1995, and this truck topped all of them by a long shot. The roominess of the crewcab is second to none IMHO, and the ride is spectacular (rides better than my Impala LS does!). The fuel economy isn't bad either if I can keep my wife from putting the pedal to the metal. I believe we could average around 20 to 25 mpg, even with the 5.3 liter engine if we tried a little harder, but with the power at the ready, it is hard to refrain from punching it and hearing the grumble from under the hood. It has all the power we need and then some. I am impressed with the way the truck performs in all aspects, plus asthetics.
Critical Review
I'm giving extra credit to this truck because of the age. Although far from perfect, the engine starts every time and performs well. Despite the poor condition of the suspension the handling is good. However there is no excuse for the low quality of the body assembly and chassis. Suspension parts should not fall off as you drive down the road. Doors are supposed to open unless there is body damage to prevent their operation. Heavy tail light assemblies should be held in place by more than two small screws. Parts do wear out over time, but everything I've listed could have been prevented by proper welds, better hardware quality and adequate engineering.

The 3.8 liter engine in my truck has over 330,000 miles on it and still runs great. AC works, everything works. Rebuilt the transmission at 278,000 and still going strong.

Reliable and comfortable
electrical, underpowered (4.3L)
This week I will have owned my 2005 Silverado 1500 LS for 20 years, having bought in new from a dealership in Texas. I've owned between 25 and 30 vehicles since 1968, ten of which were new and only of which for longer than seven years. My truck is the base model with 6.5 ft bed and a 5-speed manual transmission. It has been a workhorse with very little problems. Having said that, the problems have been electrical (starter module, ignition relay). Working on the engine is very easy as I do most work myself. Starter motors and alternator are expected and easy to replace. Amazingly, the factor-installed AC-Delco battery lasted 9 and a half years.
In good shape, runs good, starts very easy, has been a good truck. Used for work and running around. The truck and I have both been retired for the last 15 years, so there has been no work load on truck.
very reliable
A few small common problems
