Positive Review
This is my 3rd Lumina in a row. Found it with 63,000 miles in excellent condition with new brakes and battery. It gives me 20-30 MPG depending city or hwy and handles great.
Critical Review
Provided decent creature comforts for 1997 and its very spacious inside, and has carnivorously trunk, and trunk opening. Power lock, windows, mirror, a/c etc... Suspension is decent for a US car, but still useful to test it out on parking lot at max limits to familiar with. Current at ~142K mi probably will benefit greatly from front strut replacement. Its a decent transportation. Had gone thru 3 alternators and some electrical switches go dead. Fairly cheap to repair, but useful to have a mechanic handy who can repair rather then replace small knick-knacks. 3.1L is moderately slow and benefits greatly from premium gas. At about 75Kmi it started eating coolant (1qt/2500mi), and had head gasket replaced ~100Kmi. Plugs and wires as well. Had a el. problem ~$130K and the car would stall, not accelerate when the gas was presses, the mechanic tracked it down to electrical failure and fixed it very cheaply. Tranny FLUID stated goin' south (clear, then brownish) at about 120K, just pumped ~1gal and added fresh ATF and conditioner and works fine. Have not even changed the AT filter. Driven from new to still running @142K

All right this car for a couple months I did a little bit of work on it it runs like a top it hard to make any noise as soon as I get to fix brakes fixed it'll be worth your money.. Already taking it out of town had no problems with it made it to my destination and back I think it was over 50 MI and I only spent like 10 bucks and gas and gas is high right now
having a car that ran for 12 years no probs
nothing at all
We had our 1998 Chevrolet Lumina for for 12 years. Bought it when it had 39000miles on it and when it was totaled by someone playing in a parking lot at a bowling alley we had 259000 miles on it!! It was depressing losing that car! Never had a problem with it that was no regular wear and tare it was always something that was to be expected! This car never let us down EVER!! Ran like a true Chevy thats for sure. We had a 2003 suburban at the same time and both were the most reliable vehicles we ever owned, truly diehard Chevrolet owners here!!
Good beginner car
brake lines snap easily
This car has stood the test of time being constantly used in order to make 1 hr commutes to boston for over 15 years. Very little problems, brake line could be finicky but handles well.
Comfy , reliable

I bought this car and it has been a real life saver.
Bought my 98’ Lumina LTZ from an older couple back in 2017 with 90k miles for 1500! It was garage kept and had a stack of maintenance records. I originally bought it as a winter beater but fell in love with it and treat it just as good as my nice car! Since I’ve owned it I’ve only done fluid changes and a tune up.
reliable, cheap price
you can feel the bumps, accelerates a bit slowly
I bought this car at 19-- it was my first car. I spent 800 on it. I just needed a car for a cheap price. This chevy lasted me two years. I bought it with 165k miles, sold it at 173k because the ac compressor went out and auto shops say that it costs 1000+ to fix it, so thats more than the car is worth, thats the only reason I sold it. Otherwise, Ive done a few small repairs on it in the two years I owned it-- nothing more than 100-150 each. If youre getting a car for 800, its an awesome thing to have it last two years for you. Overall, a good first car, and if youre getting it for cheap, its good for the price.
Soild car. Paint dosn't go bad.
Looks like a cop car
These car drive forever, even the parts guys say I don't sell a lot of parts for these. Comfortable nice sedan.
Trying to find the trade value and looking for a newer chevy
