You’ll like this car if you want a large and plushly appointed sedan with good design, great comfort and trunk space that actually tops many SUVs. It also offers plenty of high-tech features, including OnStar, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, navigation and both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Great mileage is another plus.
You may want to look elsewhere if you have to have a utility vehicle, like millions of other American motorists. While mileage is good, it won’t match the Toyota Avalon Hybrid, and there’s no all-wheel-drive option, either.
The Chevy Impala has been around for a few years and launched with upscale features like Wi-Fi. There haven’t been many changes since, and the 2019 Impala sedan gets few changes, primarily the availability of new wheel locks and expanded availability of the Jet Black Premium Cloth/Leatherette interior trim.
In an era when utility vehicles dominate the sales chart, there’s still reason to check out a family-friendly sedan like the 2019 Chevrolet Impala. Chevy’s largest 4-door is both spacious and comfortable, while also delivering solid fuel-economy numbers. The Impala targets a largely imported crowd of full-size sedans, including Toyota Avalon, Nissan Maxima, Kia Cadenza, Hyundai Azera, and Ford retains the big Taurus, at least for 2019. There are three Impala trim levels, including the LS and LT, with a standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder making 197 horsepower. They can also be ordered with the optional 305-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 that drives the high-line Premier trim. Changes are minimal for 2019, but the Impala already has plenty of high-line features, including keyless entry, Bluetooth and onboard Wi-Fi.
2019 Chevrolet Impala pricing starts at $15,577 for the Impala LS Sedan 4D, which had a starting MSRP of $28,895 when new. The range-topping 2019 Impala Premier Sedan 4D starts at $16,819 today, originally priced from $37,595.

Chevrolet’s Impala nameplate has been around, on-and-off, since 1958 and while it remains a full-size sedan, measuring over 200 inches nose-to-tail, it doesn’t have much in common with those bloated boulevard cruisers of decades past. First launched for the 2014 model-year, the latest-generation 2019 Impala features a stylish, coupe-like roofline while still offering plenty of interior space and great visibility. With its base engine it is reasonably peppy, while the 305-horsepower V6 is downright quick, launching from 0 to 60 in a mere 6.0 seconds. Despite its mass, the 2019 Chevrolet Impala has an unexpected spryness to its handling, but it’s just as comfortable as those classic versions were in decades past.
Chevrolet may bill itself as a brand for the “masses,” but you might not know that if you slipped inside without first spotting the familiar bow-tie badge. The first thing you’re likely to note is just how well equipped and finished the latest Impala can be, especially with the mid-range LT and top-line Premier trims. Then you’ll be impressed by the sedan’s cavernous interior space. Even with five adults, no one will be jostling one another, especially with the Impala’s supportive seats keeping you firmly in place. Heading out for a long weekend, or just a golf outing, the 18.8-cubic-foot trunk will swallow everything you need.
No longer a wallflower sitting on rental lots, this latest-generation Impala full-size sedan is striking. Its taut sheet metal hides its 201.3-inch length well without looking over-the-top. Even the grille — an element that gapes on many other cars — is well-proportioned. The long and powerful hood leads into a nicely swept windshield and sweptback roof, while the sides gently flex with creases running just below the windows. The trunk lid appears short but hides plenty of space inside. Wheel sizes range from 18 inches on base LS and mid-trim LT models, while Premier Impalas ride on 19-inchers, with 20s optional.
CHEVY MYLINK
With quick response, an intuitive interface and detailed graphics, Chevy’s MyLink infotainment system is one of the best. The system comes with onboard Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, voice activation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and a large 8-inch screen. An easily programmed navigation system is available and standard on the Premier.
ACTIVE SAFETY FEATURES
Many active safety systems are standard on the Premier model and optional on the LT with the V6, including Side Blind Zone Alert with Lane Change Alert and Rear Park Assist that warns when your bumper approaches objects. Lane Departure Warning, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Forward Collision Alert are available.
Even the base Chevrolet Impala LS trim offers a surprising amount of features, starting with its keyless entry and start, 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, rearview camera and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility operated through an 8-inch touch-screen display. Step up to the LT trim, for another $2,000, and you get such niceties as dual-zone climate control, remote engine start and additional USB inputs. The Premier takes you another step, with features like voice-controlled navigation. Safety gear includes 10 airbags, stability/traction-control systems, and OnStar emergency assist. New Impalas include two years/24,000 miles (two visits) of complimentary maintenance. Wi-Fi and OnStar 4G LTE connectivity are built-in on all models.
These days, some manufacturers charge extra for just about everything but the air in the tires. The 2019 Chevrolet Impala, on the other hand, offers an extensive array of standard gear, especially if you order the sedan in the LT and Premier trim levels. There are some options, even on the top-line package, starting with active cruise control, driver memory seat, ventilated front seats, a sunroof and the upgraded, 11-speaker Bose audio system.
Two engines are available in the 2019 Chevy Impala. Standard on base LS and mid-grade LT trims is a smooth 2.5-liter 4-cylinder with 197 horsepower, while the more recommendable 3.6-liter V6 is optional on those trims and standard on the 2019 Impala Premier model. The 4-cylinder engine is the fuel-sipper of the two, featuring a start/stop system that turns off the engine at red lights to save gas. The V6, which is shared with the Chevy Camaro, boasts 305 horsepower and gives the Impala significantly more thrust. With the V6 the sedan is capable of 0-60-mph acceleration in about 6.0 seconds. Both engines are connected to a 6-speed automatic transmission, and all Impalas are front-wheel drive.
