Positive Review

"It does everything"

I love it! In any situation it just wants to give more. 2' of snow, no problem. Towing a 16' enclosed trailer loaded cross country, no problem. I wonder how many 10 year old cars attract as much attention as these do. I am constantly being complimented on how good the truck looks. Gonna hold on to this one for sure.

"Lemon in a Pretty Wrapper"

2007 Z-71 Chevy Avalanche... Beautiful truck... I loved it... I am currently without it due to transmission failure for the second time since I bought it NEW. I only have 14k miles on it. Drives great, but not exactly off-road ready even with Z-71 package. Acceleration good. Engine reliable (so far). Transmission... I've read a LOT of reviews now about how terrible the transmission is and I'm experiencing first hand... even the rental car people told me that they've been renting under warranty to a LOT of chevy owners. Usefulness of the truck is great... Midgate is awesome. Add in mud guards as soon as you buy or else even small rocks will chip the paint.. great investment. LASTLY, DO NOT THINK YOU ARE GOING TO GET A LOT OF SERVICE FROM GM... DEALERSHIPS ARE HELPFUL MOST OF THE TIME, BUT GM COULDN'T GIVE A RIP. Also, if you are gonna by... don't get the Xilon coating and buy the extended warranty... YOU'LL NEED IT!!!

Awesome features!
Pros

Easy to work on. Storage compartments on rear fenders. Tonneau covers and removable rear window.

Cons

Gas mileage is the greatest. A lot of cheap plastic parts in interior.

I love the many extras this truck has.

Old reliable
Pros

Everything about the truck is a pro

Cons

None

We have 198,000 miles on our avalanche and towed it behind an RV for 7 years. It’s been a great truck. It has never left us stranded on the side of the road. Of course we’ve had to replace the batteries and some other small parts but nothing huge. I was very sad when they stopped making them. It’s actually the 2nd one we’ve owned. I sold my 2002 avalanche to a friend who still has it as her main ride.

Years of enjoyment in my Avalanche
Pros

Versatile cargo/passenger capability. Comfortable.

Cons

Gas mileage.

I didn't need a truck all the time for work, but occasionally I'd be hauling construction materials. I also needed a comfortable vehicle for my use and to take my father around now and again. Two big and tall men so a small truck wouldn't accommodate us. The Avalanche was the answer. Good things: Proven GM chassis. Good looking. Comfortable and versatile as any vehicle i've ever owned. Parts are plentiful for most of the vehicle, especially the parts shared with the Tahoe & Suburban. Fits 5 people in comfort. The back seats flip down 60/40 so you can have 3 passengers and some cargo in the cabin. We often times on trips had our Australian shepard on his bed on one side of the back seat. Handling and ride are good. The versatility of the midgate really is amazing. I could carry several sheets of 4'x8' plywood with the seats down and midgate open. Things to know: some models have a cracking problem with the hard (brittle) plastic top of the dash. GM refused to do anything about it. After their reorganization it was part of 'old GM' I found a dash cap that hid the problem. (this was on the Tahoes, Cadillac's EXT Escalade version of the Avalanche too). Models with the black plastic cladding on the tail panels, sail panels and such will need to maintain them so they don't turn ashey grey. The 3 panels that cover the bed are not 100% watertight but they're good. Acorns and tree detritis can get in the grooves and cause leaks. The bed has a standard heavy rubber mat floor. Things do not slide around but they don't slide in and out easy either. The suspension is not a truck suspension- this is a Suburban with the roof amputated. It has the Suburban's suspension as well. It gets mediocre gas mileage but it is a big vehicle. No mechanical issues for me. Brake pads, Oil changes... that was it. I regret to share that my Avalanche was totaled in Spring 2022

Avoid the junk
Pros

Good style

Cons

piece of junk

Engine complete ruined despite immaculate care at 106k miles. Research the fuel management system problems before purchasing this truck, it does not have the good vortec engine.

love this truck
Pros

power, room, tow capacity, fuel management, looks,

Cons

faulty radio

I bought this truck with only 21,000 miles on it by it's previousowner. It's 2022 and I just turned 101,000 miles. I take care of my vehicles and drive them until the tires fall off. This vehicle has proved it's value with very little service other than general maintenance. With the michelin tires it drives like a Cadillac. The fuel management, switching from V8 to V4 on trips saves a great deal on gas. I've even had offers from dealerships to purchase the vehicle but I wouldn't buy a new vehicle made of nothing but chips even if you gave it to me.
