Positive Review
From the day this truck entered my life it was perfect, even until the day we had to trade it in. I cried that day and it still tugs at my heart. This vehicle, with regular oil and filter changes, never ever had an engine or tranny problem. Of course we did regular maintenance, Chevy got it right with this one. We traveled with it, hauled grandkids and motorcycle trailers, was my daily driver, and it cleaned up nice. Comfortable ride, we kept the suspension stock, nothing was ever needed, we had it for 13 years. About 2 years before we traded it in, I reprogrammed the chip, and it did very well. 35+ hp, 25+ torque, and about 3+ mpg.
Critical Review
My truck has been well maintained through regular oil changed and servicing. New transmission with 37000 miles. Never wrecked. Body is in great shape, shiny factory paint. 4 wheel drive. All power. Has factory 3 piece covered bed. Leather is cracked due to aging and unable to garage for 10 years. Great heating and air.

It’s been good to me for 22 years ! Best truck I ever had only two wheel drive but never have I gotten stuck
Reliable, durable
Have to have an expensive custom topper/cap made for the bed.
My Avalanche was extremely durable and reliable on the rugged back country roads. Cold Montana minus degree temps, she still fired right up. Despite the high miles it ran like a champ.
Strong motor and transmission, reliable, great versatility, excellent options
Standard chevy rust and lifter tick, which they should work on. No onstar older than 06.
Style, power, versatility, and dependability! I don't understand why they quit making Avalanches! My 5.3L v8 Z71 has never let me down. I've hauled a fully loaded 33' camper at 65 mph on the interstate, and when the camper blew a tire my truck just gave a vibration but never swerved, or missed a beat! My Avie has 263,000 miles and still going strong, I'd take her anywhere and haul anything with her!
Very versatile.
A little underpowered.
A little underpowered, but other than that, it's the perfect truck. Rides like a car, and is super quiet inside. It has all the bells and whistles you'd want. I've owned this truck 16 years, and it's been the best vehicle I've ever owned. If they had put a 350cu in, or even a 400cu in, it would be the perfect truck for the average person.
Most inexpensive truck to maintain
Everybody keeps trying to buy it
It is the best vehicle I’ve ever owned and that says a lot. I’ve been an auto tech for over 40 years and have owned dozens of vehicles but none top this avalanche. I will drive it till I die. You can never go wrong with a Chevy v8 or the v6 4.3L in these trucks. I am a Chevrolet truck owner for life.
Versatility, Power, Performance, Design
NONE
I bought our 2003 Chevy Avalanche Z71 in the fall of 2002. I've used it half to death - hauling a hot air balloon trailer all over the western USA and later approximately 15 trips back and forth to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - a 1,000 mile trip from the border - many of those trips hauling a very heavy tandem axle trailer. Keep in mind, Mexican highways are not the best. We lived in Puerto Vallarta for many years - and EVERYWHERE we went was over rough, cobblestone roads! We have had very few issues until lately - it's now stuck in 1st gear and the A/C doesn't work - but, what the hell, it's been a wonderful vehicle - and after it's been through - I'm not unhappy or disappointed. It's been easy to drive, comfortable, powerful, attractive and versatile. I could go on with the things I like about it - but suffice it to say Chevy did an outstanding job when they designed this vehicle and we've loved it. I just wish they still made them.
great car I owned for over 20 yrs.
