Created to help celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Maserati by one of its most steadfast collaborators, the Zagato Mostro powered by Maserati made its world debut in Lake Como, Italy, at the annual Villa d’Este Concorso d’Elegance. Paying contemporary homage to the storied Maserati 450 S Coupe Zagato "Monster" – a lightweight, high-powered competition variant of the 450 S street car built for the 1957 World Sportscar Championship and driven at Le Mans by Sir Stirling Moss – this new-gen Mostro will have a limited production run of just five vehicles. All have been spoken for by Zagato collectors and will be delivered by the end of the year.

Race ready but street legal in at least some parts of the world, the new Zagato Maserati Mostro wraps its sleek carbon fiber bodywork around a carbon fiber MonoCell central tub that integrates a steel tube mid-structure that forms the passenger compartment. The Mostro’s swan-wing doors carry fixed glass elements that save weight and complexity and its performance-focused cabin features two form-fitting racing shells.

Motivation comes from a center-front mounted Maserati V8 with dry-sump lubrication system and tuned to make in excess of 400 horsepower. It drives the rear wheels via an aft-mounted 6-speed dual-clutch transaxle that helps enhance the car’s overall weight distribution. The Mostro’s double wishbone front/rear suspension features racing-style pushrod actuation of the spring/shock units and it rides on 19-inch alloy wheels that mount 255/40 front tires and 295/35 rear rubber.
