You can buy a lot of things in Volkswagen’s DriverGear online store. Hats. Replacement valve stem caps for your Golf R. A tent designed to extend out of the back of your Atlas SUV.
But it’s the ketchup that’s winning headlines.
Yesterday, Volkswagen announced the release of part number 00010 ZDK-259-101 – a bottle of VW Gewürz ketchup. The company offered to ship bottles to fans for free. The initial supply disappeared in a single day. But there may be more chances to sample it.
“Best known for its history of iconic automobiles, the Volkswagen brand has produced and provided food items like the VW currywurst sauce for its German plant employees for decades,” the company explains. The brand has its own recipe for currywurst sausage, sold at its German plants. “The uniquely spiced sausage is often served chopped into bite-size slices in a bowl and drenched with the sauce.”
Now, it’s the headline item at the top of the DriverGear page. But, VW says, “the limited supply has already been claimed by the public.”
If you simply must know how well people obsessed with cars can cook, there will be more chances. “The public can also get a taste of the condiment when it makes a special appearance at ChainFEST, the world’s premier gourmet chain food festival in Los Angeles, on October 5, 2024,” the company says.
