The 2022 Hyundai Palisade is an impressive SUV that offers seating for seven with second-row captain’s chairs or eight when built with the bench seat. The sole engine choice is still the 3.8-liter V6 that is connected to an 8-speed automatic transmission. It provides enough power to keep the Palisade moving, although it may be overmatched when the Palisade is full and towing its maximum of 5,000 pounds.
The Hyundai Palisade was already pretty generous with standard features when it was new in 2020, and that feature set got even longer for 2022. This year’s new standard safety tech features include blind-spot monitoring, turn signal mirrors, rear cross-traffic alert, and Safe Exit Assist. Other than those additions, the 2022 Palisade isn’t much different from the 2021 model.
The Palisade rides comfortably and accelerates well. It’s not exactly a thrill ride, but most people shopping for 3-row family SUV are looking for an alternative to a minivan. Front-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive available as an option on all trims. That’s a shift from the 2021 model year, which saw the top-line Calligraphy model come with all-wheel drive as standard. Fuel economy is rated at up to 19 city/26 highway mpg, about average for this class.
Practically speaking, the Palisade offers good comfort for adult passengers, even in the third row, and a useful 18 cubic feet of storage that can expand to 86.4 cubic feet with all rows folded.
Numerous options include such things as satellite radio, a 12-speaker/630-watt Harman Kardon audio system, and a 12.3-inch digital driver information cluster. As with all Hyundai models, the 2022 Palisade includes a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
Four Trim Levels
With one engine choice, the four trim levels add luxury and technology touches. Prices range from $33,150 for the base SE model to $46,690 for the top Calligraphy trim. All trims can add all-wheel drive for $1,700. Destination charges tack on another $1,225.
In addition to the safety features mentioned above, the base SE trim is well equipped, with one-touch sliding second-row seats, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED projector headlights, 8-passenger seating, and an 8-inch infotainment system. There are USB ports in the first and second rows for charging devices.
The next trim up is the SEL for an extra $2,350 ($35,500). It includes heated front seats, an 8-way power-adjustable driver seat with lumbar support, power sunroof, standard second-row captain’s chairs (or optional bench seat), and dual-zone automatic climate control. It also opens the door for the Convenience and Premium packages, which add many of the features of the higher trims, including wireless charging, a self-leveling rear suspension, 20-inch alloy wheels, and a 115-volt outlet. Above that is the Limited, whose starting price jumps to $45,390. At the top of the line is the Calligraphy trim, which offers features that put the Palisade in the luxury territory.
